Ofcaurse these cameras are more automatic than manual. But maybe you you any other settings.

Because I use only automatic (maybe because I don't have any idea which settings to use).

+ When I set to WB to auto - pictures are good. Other WB setting - pictures are.. yellow :)

+ When shooting indoor with flash in small distances (1-1.5m) - pictures are too light (what to do? shoot from bigger distance and zoom a little?).
+ When to use other ISO settings (now I'm useing auto)?'
+ Exposure value: what default value do you use?

So, any opinions? What default settings do you use for point&shoot shooting?

Thanks in advance.

Outdoor: Everything auto (including WB), no flash.

Indoor: Move dial to scene mode (!!). Select night scene (not portrait even for portraits), incandescent (or fluorescent) WB, real steady hand or put on table (don't have a tripod), zoom wide (to get maximum light), rest is auto. No problem with flashes too bright this way, since the flash never fires.

If you must use a flash for short distances indoor (e.g. subject is moving), try to change the flash level to low.

Thanks for advices. I'll try to do some test shots now and look what happens with these settings.

It strange, because I never used scene mode. Thought it just for night shots.

Here is an indoor example with just these settings (except for the WB, which I forgot at auto and later fixed using photoshop). The focus was on the wine glass in front. It came out as ISO100, 1/4 sec, and since the noise reduction kicked-in, it looks clean.

Another question.

Are you satisfied with the quality of P9. When I was buying P7 in all reviews and user comments there written, that photos with P9 is not very sharp.

Yes, I'm satisfied. This is my first digital camera, so I don't have anything to compare as far as sharpening goes. With good light and wide angle, you can get really good sharp images. Here is an example (straight out of the camera) of a macro shot, and then a 100% crop. It might not be as good as other bee samples from F7x7 with macro lens, but for the price and size I think it's pretty good.

I have a P5.

I keep my sharpening set at +2. And normally, all other settings are kept at factory default.

I set my flash to low power, when I am close to objects. If the flash is still too bright, I will place a tissue paper in front of the flash when taking the picture.

Thanx,

In general I like this camera. Very small and compact and does pretty good photos.

Ofcourse when I compare them with a S85 (4MPix) - they looks a little bit soft :((

That's why I use sharpening set at +2... The pictures from the P5 don't look too soft then.

OK. I'll try to sharpen them and look at the result.

Have a nice weekend!
