Hi Folks,

Just wanted to take a quick web poll to see what other 2200 users favorite paper is.

It seems I am going through an enhanced matte phase and am really impressed with the results.

Please share your thoughts.

Thanks,

Andy

So far I've only tried Premium Luster and Premium Semigloss. I like them both.

I have Enhanced Matte on order (with it's black cartridge), and will report my findings later.

I am still in very early days with this printer and have been won over by the Epson Archival Matte, never really printed on Matte paper but this is excellent. I don't like the 'Epson Glossy Paper Photo Weight' it is not very glossy and ripples after printing although I must admit it is one of the few glossy or semi-gloss papers I have tried that doesn't show any signs of bronzing which the 'Epson Premium Semigloss Photo Paper' seems to suffer from- even the sample packed with the printer was quite bad. I am trying third party gloss papers and like the 'Tetenal Fine Art Glossy Paper 290gm' for it's high gloss but it does Bronze slightly. My preferred glossy paper at the moment is 'Fuji High Gloss Photo paper 280gm', which is not quite as glossy as the Tetenal but doesn't suffer from the Bronzing as badly. I keep referring to the Bronzing effect and I use the description to describe any effect that is apparent when the the angle of light on the paper changes the appearance of the print, there is another word but I can't remember how to spell it-metamepherism?. One other of my favourite printing mediums is Verbatim White CDRs, they look great; oh sorry I forgot you don't have that in the USA do you! Forgive me, I couldn't resist.

For color, Epson Premium Luster. For B&W, Epson Velvet Fine Art and/or Photo Rag, followed by Epson Archival Matte as a close second for B&W.

My favorite by far is the Epson Premium Lustre.

For 13" x 19" and 8" x 10" printouts I like the Epson Textured Fine Art paper because its a thick paper and its heavy texture. For anything below 8" x 10" I perfer Epson PhotoLuster.

Looks like the watercolor, prem luster, and the matte get a lot of play...

Has anyone used the 8x10 borderless matte ??

I bought a pack of it and cant print borderless on it. What happens is a pop up error and a message that says the matte paper is not supported for borderless application. Has anyone found a solution to this? Or maybe a dupe? The eson website does not have ANYTHING that I can find that has profiles/info for the 2200... A half hour(hold) call to tech did not help.

TIA

I am a new owner of this printer. So far I have used premium luster with fantastic results. Don't see much need to change paper at this time. Only wish, premium luster was offered in 4" rolls and 5 x 7 sheets. Oh well, can't have everything.

I downloaded the 2100 drivers, which let you do borderless matte printing. I can't get the 2100 status monitor to work with it, so I just ignore the error and let it print (after printing, error changes to OK and I just click out of it).

If you decide to download the 2100 drivers: I had to stop the setup process when it couldn't find the 2100 printer. I then went into the 2100 properties and changed the port to the 2200 port.

Now I just choose the 2100 printer when I want to use borderless matte and the 2200 printer for every thing else. Works great!

Oh, and in answer to the original question, I also prefer the watercolor, matte, and luster papers...the watercolor is new to me, but I used the other two most of the time in my 870. Someday, maybe I'll mortgage the house or something and try the fine art papers!

I just started using Epson Enhanced Matt with the Matt Black cartridge on my 2200, and the color images appear a little dull and flat compared to the Premium Luster paper. Anyone else experience this?

On a more positive note, my B/W images are finally truly black and white with the Enhanced Matt/Matt Black combination, and that's w/o the GreyBalancer software. I think part of the reason why images done on Premium Luster have a reddish/magenta cast, even with the GB software settings enabled, is that the Photo Black ink isn't completely black -- it looks a little reddish in the shadow areas.

Any feedback on these points w/be appreciated!

Mike,

'Baiting' our colonial cousins like that is not really fair. Besides, if they shop around, their printer will not cost £500+, their inks are a lot cheaper, AND they do have Premium Luster (Lustre) paper which we can't get - and is very good by the way.

Just my two cents, errr.. pardon me, pence worth :-)

For glossy, my favorite "paper" isn't paper at all. The Pictorico Photo Gallery Hi-Gloss White Film gives outstanding results. For Matte prints, I usually stick with the Epson Archival Matte paper. You can't beat the price! I recently broke down and bought a 10-pack of Hahnemuhle Photo Rag paper. Very nice, heavy stock with a great matte surface, but something I wil reserve for special prints after fine-tuning on the EAM (12X price differential at my supplier).
