Well,

After reading this site religiously since August, the wife and I finally took the plunge and went with a F707(BH Photo). The input on this forum is fantastic. The camera is chargning now. I can't wait to get going with some pics and annoying the family with lots of pictures of my black lab. Now I must buy accessories. Bag first then probably an extra battery and a charger. BTW, I found out about BH Photo because when my sister was in the Cinema and Photography dept during college they always bought their supplies from B and H. Nothing really outstanding about the purchase, we paid a few dollars more but we were comfortable with their reputation.

Chuck

What month was the camera manufactured (shown on the lens barrel)? I'm getting ready to buy one (for my son) from B&H also.

Congrats

My only advice would be to buy more memory sticks and not bother with an extra battery yet!

For those who want F707 and prefer buy it from local, you can print out F707 price from Ritzcamera at $749 for Sears price match. Final price is $725+tax. Don't know whether you can get 10% Sears customer appreciation discount on top of that, which ends Sat.

Good luck!

You might consider putting a UV filter on your camera as cheap lens protection.

BTW, did you get any extended warranty? I hear Sony charges quite a bit for after-warranty repairs. Also, be sure to register your 707 at sonystyle.com to get a $20 coupon usable at their store. You have to fill out a questionaire, but twenty bucks is twenty bucks.

I price-matched a 707 last month at Circuit City for under $780. The 717 was just coming out and I saw some of the pics being posted. IMHO, the 707 looks much better in sharpness and color except for the some-time blown out reds problem which is adjustable in PS.

Good luck with your new camera, you're gonna love this one.

I'll echo this one too...battery life is fantastic, so an extra MS is more important.

TigerDirect has 128's at $39.99 after rebate; I might buy another one at that price.

Loren
I agree with Ann, buy 128MB Memory Sticks first. I've shot over 400
shots using 5 memory sticks on a single charged battery. Although
I've 2 spares I rarely use the second and have not needed the third
battery yet.

Happy snapping! Don't hesitate, take lots of pictures.

Just bought it at Fry's Electronics for $699 + tax. 128MB memory stick for $49.99. So I guess I should buy another stick...?

Also, I've been VERY, VERY, VERY torn over the 707 vs. the Fuji S260Z and am still second-guessing myself... I hope the 707 does a good job with outdoor sports action shots...

It does great outside shots and action shots , I am having my problems with the inside shots with flash causing redeye in almost all pictures of my family. I never had a problem with redeye with my CD1000 or FD91, I still feel I am doing something wrong because no one else is complaining.

Wow,

I have had problems with redeye on almost every camera that I have owned. Prior to going digital, I had (still have, but doesn't get much use anymore) a Minolta SLR. I got a good amount of redeye with that camera. I also get redeye with my 707 (it depends on the shot I am taking).

I think you will have the redeye problem with all cameras that have the flash relatively close to the lense.

Mostly, I take the red-eye out using PS.

Good luck,
Ken

I bought two 128s from TigerDirect, because of the advertised $20 mail-in rebate on each. There was no rebate information on the Tiger web page (other than the notice of the rebate) there was no mail-in rebate card with the order. I sent two e-mails to Tiger asking how to apply for the rebate. I got no answers. I therefore withheld payment on my credit card of the $40 rebate. The $40 has been credited back to my account by the credit card company. That was about a month ago, and I've heard nothing more. I also had bought two from B&H for $59 each.

TigerDirect has 128's at $39.99 after rebate; I might buy another
one at that price.

Thanks for the reply, I guess I am glad to hear it is just not me, But it is bugging my wife alot because the cd1000 almost never had redeye, oh well

Not sure it matters, but I think the flash for the cd1000 is an inch or so farther away from the lens. That might make a difference.

My old Minolta has the same kind of flash setup that the 707 has and I pretty much get the same results with red-eye.

I also have a s70 with a flash relatively close to the lense and red-eye is a problem also.

Depends on person --lighting--etc..
But after getting the hlv 1000 flash and bouncing it no more red eye

Ken

I have the flash, but I have not tried it yet because I was out of batteries but I just got a couple dozen and will try it tonite. I was hopeing we wouldn't have to use the external flash for all the inside dark photo', but if we must we must. We take mostly just pictures of the kids so that is why it has benn bothering us so much.

Thanks

Hey Walt,

I too looked at the Fuji. A salesman at Ritz literally grabbed a G2 out of my hands and told me I didn't want that and put the Fuji in my hands. I spent some time looking at the Fuji pics and they just didn't seem right. The zoom and fast shutter speeds are amazing but image quality is what made me go with the Sony.
