Old Bob Its snowing in the mountains and my son and I going up when the weather breaks for a shoot.I ve had my 60 for two months and find keeping detail in wooded hill sides with out blowing out the sky can be tough.Same with shooting rivers and lakes.Something about dynamic range?I had better luck with my old nikon FM and canon A-1..How the he@#$ am I gonna get nice snow images on a clear bright day with all that white snow and still have blue skys?Filters of some kind?I love this 60 so Im gonna work this out.Is the exposure the same on a 1D as the D60?Any advice? Thanks, Bob

You have to use some sort of curves if you want to distort the brightness relationship between overly dark and light objects. Are you doing this?

In addition to curves, I guess you can do some selective exposure compensation as well. Either way you need to distort the natural ratio of brightness.

you could also try photoshop select highlights, dup the layer and multiply to bring out blown out snow. This very shooting example is used in "photoshop - photoretouching secrets by scott kelby on new rider press publishing.

A polarizer and a 18% gray card helped me to get white white snow and blue blue sky...

Fred Miranda's DynamicRangeIncreasing Photoshop action sure does a nice job on what you need. You overexpose one image, underexpose the other and paste one on top of the other, and vundaba!!!! you have a great exposed image. ........
