It seems to be pretty much impossible to locate one of these chargers online. I'm in desperate need of one to finally install the firmware update so I can remedy the battery meter issue. Any idea where to find one?

Thanks.

You can use a freshly charged set of eneloops or the Lithium AA batteries that came with the K2000. The firmware update only takes about 90 seconds to finish.

Cheers.

I have 2 pairs of eneloop batteries for my camera that function perfectly fine in all other devices, but wear out almost immediately in the K-x. I've tried running the update using three different sets of batteries (once with the eneloops & twice more with standard AAs), all attempts to no avail.

My SD card is not the problem, since I use it continually. When I attempt to begin the update, my screen remains black. I'm just concerned I might brick my unit if the batteries fail mid-update.

If it were me, I would go to the store and buy 4 Lithium AA batteries. Something like these:

If you find the power adapter you are looking for and during your firmware update you have a power failure then you end up with a brick.

I would use Lithium AA batteries. I would also use a card reader to put the firmware update FWDC206B.BIN file in the root directory. Do not put the file in any folders on the card.

Are you sure you are putting the FWDC206B.BIN file in the root directory?

@brandrx

I think I've managed to fix one half of my problem while accidentally complicating the other half. When I first did the update, I placed the file in the correct location, but failed to format the card beforehand. My second attempt involved formatting the card, but placing the file in the wrong directory.

I'm gonna give it another go tonight & it should work this time through.

Thanks.

You don't need to format the card, just make sure that the firmware file you extract from the Pentax download is copied to the root directory on the card. Format the card afterwards to clean up the card.

I successfully installed the update last night.

When I initially attempted the update, without formatting the card & with the file in the root directory, the update would not start. Last night, I had a formatted card & the file in the root & the update went smoothly & was finished in under 2 minutes.

All's well now & I'm hoping my battery woes are a thing of the past.

Thank you to everyone for your help & assistance. It's great to finally have this off my to-do list.
