$.89 Nimh 1800 mah AA batteries

Are they rechargable? Non-rechargable batteries are really bad for old Mother Earth, and they get expensive because you throw them away instead of reusing them.

This looks like a good deal:

I understand the shipping is steep until you hit $50 so if anyone
wants a bunch of AA nimh batteries, this might be the deal for you.
Price goes down as you buy more. I haven't bought any.

I think with that price it would be safe to say you get what you pay for. A better choice might be the new 100 minute cool charger from MAHA with a couple sets of their powerex batteries.

Remember though, that the main objective of getting rechargeable batteries is NOT to get the cheapest possible. I would rather pay a little more and get some rated at 2000mAh (probably 1950). These from Duracell are probably rated at 1750mAh.

Since they will be recharged/reused up to 1000 times the price you pay especially if only need one or two sets is not very important (within reason).

Without factoring in Shipping costs: I think you're nuts if you don't think this is a good deal. You are getting what you pay for. But the cost per mah is vastly greater here than paying (alot) more for the 2000mah ones. Go read a test to see how much more juice you get for 2000mah vs 1800mah. A 5% increase in juice effectiveness does not constitute paying a 500% premium (At least for me). All you're gonna get for the extra 200 mah is probably another 15 frames or so. If someone were to offer me 1600 mah for $.50 apiece, I'd drop a $20 immediately on the deal for that matter. You can use these for more than just your camera.

A good example is the processor wars: Would you pay $700 for the brand new 3 gig Intel processor just being released? Or would you fork out $350 for the 2.8 Gig one? How about a 2.2 Gig AMD processor that will run almost everything at 95% of the Intel speed for $150? You get what you pay for.

Your argument is true but remember that when you buy one set of NiMH batteries it's like buying 1000 sets of regular batteries. What I was saying was .89 for 1000 lower capacity batteries versus $5.00 for 1000 higher capacity batteries might make a difference to some people.

To use your own analogy, yes I would pay $700 for 1000qty 3Ghz Pentium over $350 for 1000qty 2.8Ghz Pentiums.

We obviously have differing opinions on this subject. This probably also shows a difference in our pocketbooks. There is a percentage of the population that only buys the best (you being one of them). These are the people that companies make their best margins.

I maintain, however, that it still makes sense to most people that buying 4 sets (4 X .89 =$3.56 & 4 X 3.56 = $14.24) of batteries vs 1 set of batteries even if the capacity of the 4 sets is slightly less. Another way to look at this is 4 X 2000 mah is 8000 mah of juice. 16 x 1800 mah is 28,800 mah of juice. Ratings & actual power aside (the 2000 mah is not 2000 mah), I'd still take the 16 batteries over the 4. Especially considering how "loseable" they are.
