Having used the trial versions of Portrait Professional 8 and 9 I was far from impressed. The theory of the software is you outline the eyes, mouth, nose, hairline, and jawline and the program will reshape the face and clean the skin.

Version 10 finally made this theory a reality. PP does an excellent job and has presets for males, females, children, and even uses age categories. So a 50 year old would have a different retouching algorithm applied than a 20 year old.

The software is quck, creates much better output than the previous versions, gives great results and saves a ton of time.

You still may need to do some minor tweaks in Photoshop, but this software is a great place to start.

Version 8 & 9 worked great for me I have 10 now and it has some nice features added but the end result is about the same IMO, the face sculpting you could always turn off or adjust if you don't like its effect. Over all v10 is a better product and at the pirce of $39 (currently $50 off) it is a really good buy, I emailed that offer to everyone I know who likes photography.

Normally I feel that I can do quite well using various techniques in Photoshop using information from the NAPP instructors, Lee Varis, Katrin Eismann and a couple of others to work on skin and eyes.

I have looked at Portrait Professional for quite some time from the view that perhaps it could save me quite a bit of time and as long as I did not get too carried away with the adjustment process I could still end up with a photo adjusted to my liking. The hold back for me is the fact that this product is not available in 64 Bit for the Macintosh in Version 10 and until that happens I will have to continue with my current methods.

I really like the software and for $39 the price is right. :)

I don't know much about Mac but is says Intel Mac OS X (10.4 or later) I would think later would include 64bit or did you try it?

I use Portrait Professional 10 Studio with Photoshop CS5 X64. the plug-in supports both x64 and x32 versions of Photoshop. at the time I was upgrading from 9 to 10 I compared the benefits to using the Studio x64 and aside from the unlimited file size there was no reason to go for the 64 bit version.

and If you do work with crazy large files maybe you should think of upgrading your computer to a multi core Windows 7 with 8Gb or more ram. it seems the users of the Macintosh the software comes out a year or so later or not at all. aren't the new Macs Intel based now and can run windows?

Tom,

The Studio 64 Version 10 does not work with the Mac OS X in any version number. The Portrait Professional site states: This product does not work with Mac computers.

I had read on their site in one of their forums that eventually they will release a 64 Bit of the Studio package for the Mac.

This was posted by one of the Administrators on the Forum:

We're just working on Studio 64 for the Mac at the moment, and hope to have it out in the next few weeks. 01-31-2011 07:47 PM

Not sure what a few weeks means or if when it is finally released they will offer an initial discount on the software as they are now but I just do not want to deal with a 32 Bit plug in when everything else I use in Photoshop is 64 Bit. Just have to wait and see what develops.

What happened to her freckles?

Its been my impression that people like to at least recognize themselves in photos. Is there an option to keep freckles?

sorry, I like the 'before'... the after pic looks like a puppet to me...

This program goes for the plastic "doll"effect...if that's your thing.

You can get what ever result you like from the software and can control the amount of effect locally with the restore and touch up brush.

Ask a woman which version she would rather have, untouched or retouched.

True, not eveybody needs a lot of retouching either, we can over do it. Even then which version wlil she pick?

By the way there is no measurable difference in brighness in the whites of her eyes between the two versions. Teeth maybe just a tad bright on my calibrated monitor.

I also find the original better. Any model looking like the "after" irl, I would try to change into the "first" in pictures.

Just announced
Portrait Professional Studio 64 is now available for Macs
