My take on E-PL2

I shoot in raw mode and process all my images in Lightroom. When they get imported, a "development" preset (that I made) is automatically applied to each image. Dull images are not a problem for me at all.
Nice pictures but you have to keep in mind that most people have a life and they do not intend to spend it in front of a computer to work on raw files. Besides, the LR costs what? $200-300? And that is on top of whatever people pay for the camera. And to print what? 4x6's. nah....too complicated and expensive for just a hobby.
Panasonic should have gotten this right for JPEG's as Olympus has. PP of RAW is fine, and easy with presets as you describe, but not for everyone and therefore diminishes this cameras audience.

SO, what did you decide to do? As you can see from many post here in the forum, there really is NOT a dull color issue with the GH2, having both (EPL2/GH2) for what every reasson my keep rate is almost 2x for the GH2! And it seems to nail the shot in terms of IQ every time, so many differing opinions about these cameras!
Anyone else have an experience like me?
The problem is, I can't judge...I thought I would be able to buy both cameras, compare and keep one--easy peasy. I had no idea I wouldn't be able to buy the GH2!! So, now I'm kind of stuck...I'd have to return (if I even can) the Oly, buy the GH2 and then either keep it or buy the Oly again. Grr....

Maybe I missed the credentials that qualify you to allow readers to decide whether your opinon ought to be considered. I will say that the immediate attack on Panasonic is a poor start
Why do Panasonic fanboys have to always be aggressive. An opinion is just an opinion, not a matter of life and death. geez, go and play with your Panasonic camcorder!
I vote we change your name to Playpen, which is obviously where you belong!

If you start a rant you ought to be prepared to have other's views expressed, even when you don't agree with them.
Fanboy is so overplayed you embarrass yourself by using it.
Now, time for your bottle 'cause all I can hear is "wah, waah, wah!"

I started my photo forum activities years ago in film days on the late un-lamented Photoshopper forum. That was truly a training ground for handling the most insulting and weird behaviour ever seen, though in between all the rants there were some gems of info, so some of us stuck around until it died its due death.

In those days the traffic was quite friendly and good during college holidays as there were not as many computers in homes, but when the holidays were over it all started again when the children got to play on the Internet.

Now of course the children can play all year round on their own home computers or cell phones.

So in these forums it's a matter of deciding who knows what they are talking about and discuss things with them or try to help genuine enquiries and not get involved with the nonsense direction some threads take.

Dang! Just broke that rule...... again......

Oh well, have a nice day folks.

Regards........... Guy

I guess it's a done deal for you--E-PL2 is going back? I think I might have to do the same (if I can) and just reorder it again if I don't like the GH2 (stupid, I know). I know lots of people tell me to just enjoy the camera etc....but, I'd like to think I'm going to have this next camera for a few yrs. so, I want to be sure. It's not like it's a pile of different cameras I'm deciding--only two.

I might call Adorama or B&H to see if they at least have one in the store (since they don't have stock) that I can at least tinker with. I won't be able to see colors though (esp. jpegs). If GH2 was in stock, this would not be a problem at all!!!

If I'd rate the Olympus P2 4 stars (out of 5), I could not rate the PL2 more than 2 stars. Maybe 3 if it comes down around $300, though the lower price doesn't make it a better camera, it's only the feeling that I didn't spend that much for a mediocre device.
Excellent review, I agree with 2 stars on E-PL2. I rate EPL1 at 1 star. I rated it 3/10 in my review in the past which is the same as your review on a scale of 5.

Gee, PhotoMED, why am I not even remotely surprised at that? I've only been active on this particular board for a short while and I already have picked up that you truly hate Oly 4/3 gear.

Guess what....when you feel the need to stomp your opinion down other people's throats at every opportunity, you cut off useful discourse and show narrow-mindedness that only will cut you off from possible learning experiences and growth in the future.

Perhaps you might consider saying less and thinking more....And remember, there are an awful lot of people out there with both Panny and Oly M43 cameras, and guess what...most people LIKE WHAT THEY BOUGHT!!! All the Oly owners in the world can't be that wrong, you know...perhaps there are things about them that have some appeal that the Pannys do not??? (Yes, I know, you cannot quite grasp that concept, but you might want to work on it...At the very least it would make your posts less predictable.)

I agree with the original poster with all the faults. this is why i have returned my camera today. also the pictures arent very sharp in regular lite situations (hand held) such as inside the home

I did not judge any person. If you like your camera, good luck with your camera. As a photographer, I have the right to rate a camera, which is exactly what I did. In case you didn't grasp, I am merely agreeing with the OP's review.

I agree with you as well.

If I pay $600 for a camera in 2011 I expect more. If you pay that much and expect point and shoot results, it's up to you.
Same mistake that crash course kid made the other day: that if you shell out enough $$ you'll automatically take good pictures. Alas, it ain't so. If you use a good and expensive camera as a P&S, you get P&S results.

You'll have to learn at least a minimal bit to get reasonable pics. You'll have to learn some more to get good pics.
You'll have to learn quite a lot to get great pics.

Laws of nature.

. . . My warm memory is of this forum back about 16 months ago when there were more serious and genuine photographers participating than there are now. These obstreperous children have just about taken over now.

...Been playing around with Olympus viewer and some raw E-PL2 files posted on the web - these settings work well for shadow noise at iso 200. Presumably, if selected, they would be applied to in-camera jpegs.

I vote we change your name to Playpen
You made a joke. cool!
I mostly amuse myself. BTW, I am a fan of all m4/3, starting with the EP1 which I owned on release. I have always wanted the EP2 however the price simply never has lowered enough to get along with the outstanding EVF. And, I would like to get an EP3 if such a model comes down the pike. Also, I like the Olympic 17 2.8 and have owned that.

I would like to own an EPL2 body, and may yet.

I don't own a camcorder but did back when they were as big as a suitcase and sported VHS tapes, and, I think it may have been a Panasonic come to think of it.

Let me not fail to mention the GF1 as a huge disappointment due to the invasive noise. I owned it and ebayed it. That said, GF2 is not happening for me. I own GH1 because I picked up the bundle deal and after eBaying the sub-standard 14-42 it stands me about $350.

My name is PanasonicJoe in honor of my mom, TokyoRose. Okay, maybe not.
