Has any-one actually been able to find a Leica M39 to NX mount adapter?

I've looked through the forum posts already and all I could see is some old posts form last year which had a link to single eBay auction item (long since ended) and no other links to any other source for an adapter.

I found one online shop which actually listed a Leice M to NX adapter, but they have been "out of stock" for some time.

Check this site out as it seems to have a broad range of adaptors for a variety of cameras. I don't have any hands on experience to know if they work. I do have numerous old prime lenses that I hopefully can use when I decide what system to buy.

I don't see any Samsung NX mount adapter there at all.
Lots of Sony NEX and 35mm adapters.

Sony NEX is a different system and has a different mount to sensor distance than Samsung NX.

There still does not seem to be anywhere to buy a Leica m39 lens to Samsung NX mount adapter.

Flange back distance on NX mount is too long for either the M39 or Leica M flange mount to work. However you can get a M39 -> M42 adapter ring and there is a M42 -> NX adapter to be had. However the lens thus fitted might have focus problem.

Interesting to see if anyone has tried this method to be sure.

Obviously the difficulties with flange back distance is the reason why these direct adapters are not made. Even the very dumb and borderline useful Canon EOS -> NX is fairly easily found.

You are not right. M39 adapter for rangefinder lenses is absolutely real thing:

M39 Jupiter-3 (copy of old Zeiss sonnar 50/1.5) and NX10:

Sorry, I was only "parroting" information I thought I had read elsewhere. Not being able to find an M39-> NX adapter I had thought it must be correct.

If you can guarantee results like the image you showed then I am 100% sold!

Thanks for your help.

At an earlier date I was interested but not ready for a M39-> NX adapter. Then I forgot that the m39 could work and confused it with a M mount. Now I have a Jupiter lens on the way and am suddenly much more interested in acquiring an adapter.

However the only one that has apparently been on ebay is seemingly no longer available. Has anyone any directions to a vendor of this adapter?

An alternative is to use freely available multiple connectors as I half suggested before. M39-> m42 step up ring + M42-> NX adapter. But best that one device does the service.

I also notice that the adapter shown by Smiserg looks quite different as far as I can see to the one advertised on ebay that Slavekk has purchased. I cannpt find Gphoto on the web.

Try gphotostore dopey (me).

There she be, so near, and yet so far. Some enterprising person needs to get these adapters into the English speaking part of the world. Nice little earner for a while at least as they don't seem to have any competition.

Hello Tom

I have one from ebay user peter_blb.

This is chinese product. I use adapter with Jupiter-3 and I really really happy. Jupiter-3 on NX sensor works very well.

I think that Canon 35/2 will be work on NX, but I'm not sure of course. Wider lenses unfortunately not.

Best regards!

Slawekk, thanks for your continuing help. I am now re-aware of the adapter offered by peter_blb but right at the moment at site has no items whatsover on offer of sale.

I am currently in contact with Sergey of gfotostore and may be the one who tries the Russian version of this adpater (but obviously will not be the first such user).

Will keep this thread posted. The site indicates their adapter works with Jupiter-3,8,9,11 and Industar-50 as well as Leica M39. Not sure of the rear protrusion of these lens types as I am still learning the Russian lens encyclopaedia, but the wording did not seem to warn of lens type exclusions.

Will see. I understand why it might be difficult to adapt some lens models.
Thanks for your help.

PS - puzzled by "dandelion" - now I know that it means the chip that confirms focus in a lens via the adapter.

I have a Russian M39-> NX adapter on it's way from gfotostore. Will report on it once received. First one in Australia?

Black anodised aluminium Adapter arrived today - looks well made - a bit tight on camera but we don't want these things slopping around do we?

Small and dainty but feels quite tough - will not add a lot of flange back distance so lens combinations should be quite compact.

Beat the lens here that I had bought a few days earlier - now I have adapter and no lens ...

Note Chinese made adapter has been re-listed on eBay after being absent for a while.

hi Tom

I am also waiting the Adapter from same store

I have a marvelous Leica Summarit 1,5/50 (year 1954)
and Jupiter 9 2/85
Jupiter 11 4/135

all purchased during my trip to Ukraina

I cannot wait to see the result on my NX10, on my old Leica 3G the colour of photo was very good

I have only 1 doubt about the chinese one. If you look at the picture, the lens says "serenar", so it is a canon. In wikipedia ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M39_lens_mount ) says that the canon and the leica/zeiss have different thread, the German ones used 26 threads per inch, versus 24 tpi of canon (it also says that the russian are also different, but I think the difference is not big enough to cause trouble).

So, if anyone gets the chinese, please let us know it it works with Leica/Zeiss/Industar/Jupiter lenses, please!

Hi Luigi

I have a Jupiter-12, 9 & 8 on the way. The 12 is not likely to fit but I bought it before I realised this.

I wouldn't mind an Industar/FED Elmar copy but it is hard to find one that does not look like it has been used as plug for a washing up basin (smile). Hundreds of them available but few looking well kept (I am sure they all work fine, but there are limits to what I might fit on a new camera). It is quite an experience just trawling ebay for them as they all look good from a distance. They are all pretty old and I guess most of these days have not been used for a while but stored away with all the redundant camera gear.

I imagine a trip to Russia or the Ukraine is the best way to inspect on site but it is a bit far from Australia. Might as well buy a new Leica lens - would be cheaper.

I toyed with the idea of a Jupiter-6 which is an awsome lens but at 80mm diameter at the camera end you would have to saw off the flash housing to fit it (smile). I decided to pass on that one ... I already have the Canon FD 200mm f2.8 which is decidedly slimmer and well proportioned on the NX10 and can be bought for half the price.

One of the side benefits of the M39 adapter is that it fits close to the camera and therfore will not add much depth to the lenses fitted. mmm the M42 adapter is longer, perhaps the Jupiter-6 will fit via an M42?

Must do some homework .... (I am not really serious however if one wants to make the statement of "here is the lens, where is the camera?" (and terrify your photographic subjects) then a Jupiter-6 or Helios 85mm f1.5 is the way to do it, that is if you can manage to fit one on your camera (grin)).
