Goodbye OTF

This is a sad goodbye for me too. As I wrote, I've really enjoyed my time here, but it's probably no surprise to you that I'd eventually make a camera switch. You've been so helpful to me over the years Steve. I remember when I started doing portraits - you had lots of suggestions, ideas and positive feedback which was all greatly appreciated my friend. You are always welcome to drop me an email and stay in touch. :)

You have had a very positive influence on the forum Steve. I hope it continues to be a place you can connect with other Oly users and offer your well earned insight. This is indeed a very hard goodbye to say.

Thanks Lucy. We'll see about dropping in... Thank you for your extraordinary help with the challenges I ran and all the nice feedback you gave me over the years!! You've been a beacon of light on the forum! :)

I've enjoyed seeing photos from your part of the world and very much appreciated it anytime you've commented on my photos. :)

You know, I don't think I've ever printed that photo! I'll have to do that. He's since grown into a Darth Vader costume. I really should get a video with my new gear of Vader playing the Imperial March...
Take care AH. I always enjoyed seeing your architectural photos.

It's a new beginning Marc. I don't get on OTF as often as I used to but I am glad I saw your post and a classy post at that. You have been a vauble member here and will be missed. I made a similar move as you to Canon but kept my OLY gear. I find the combo of the two systems very versatile and keeps things interesting.

I wish you luck and success in all your pursuits.

If you can't make sense, go make nonsense. It's better than no sense at all.

I’ve been super busy with many significant distractions, my back against deadlines, and much more to do than I have time to do. But, I wanted to crawl out from under my rock to wish you farewell. I’m sorry to see you depart from OTF, but, believe me, I understand.

Further, I’ve enjoyed our exchanges about technical and esthetic matters. It’s hard to teach old dog new tricks, but I’ll have to admit that I’ve learned a few tricks from you. You’ll be missed, that’s for sure. You’ve been a consistent, polite, and positive force here. Therefore, I hope you come back to visit often.

I am evaluating three different cameras, and I too may have to write my resignation speech at sometime in the future. But, I may not.

Good luck.

With best wishes, I am

Sincerely yours.

Thanks for the kind hearted message - much appreciated! I've really enjoyed all the macro's I've seen from you over the years. Those bugs you've displayed here sure helped me get into macro.

I remember when you got your Canon - a 40D I think? I was actually going to keep an Oly camera and a lens, but changed my mind. Guess I'd rather put the $ into one system and have it all work together.

Did you have the 100mm f2.8 macro? I think there's 2 versions of that. I'd be interested in your thoughts on it if you had/have it.

Thank you for those nice words John. You're a class act and have been so very helpful to me over the years, especially as regards exposure, histograms, and tonality. I always thought a few weeks shooting with you would probably be like taking a master class in photography.

I wish you the best in whatever system you decide to go with. I hope you can find some sharp wide angle lenses for those landscapes and historical shots you do so well. Best wishes to you John, and (as with other members here on OTF) always feel free to drop me an email if you like.

Your welcome Marc and thanks for the kind words too.

Yes, I did get a 40D with 17-55 and 10-22. Which camera did you pick up?

I did purchase the newer 100 L macro. In short, it is one sweet lens. When you have time shoot me an email and we can talk Canon.

Marc,

If the Canon works for you, I hope you enjoy it a lot. You can drop back in from time to time, as Wayne N does, and leave us a link to some recent work on a gallery. We'd love to see you progress.

We'll miss you a lot! It's been fun growing up with you and our Olys.

Ditto what Sharon said. Don't be a complete stranger, and if your Canon gear makes you happy, share some links with us.

I picked up a 60D. So far so good. I really like it. Very much like my E30 with the flip out screen and how it feels in my hand. The better high iso is nice to have. Surprisingly, I quite like the 2/3 ratio. I like wider perspectives and I find it's easier to crop a 5x7 or 8x10 out of 2/3 format than to crop a 4x6 or 12x18 out of a 4/3 format.

You bet. I'll email you. Thanks.

Thanks for the link. As I'd expect, some fantastic macros there. Looks like you've got some extension tubes set up with that 100mm and that's an interesting macro light you've got.

It is working out pretty well so far, though I've got lenses to add! Got to break it in with some photo shoots too.

I don't really have galleries set up like other folks, so I'm not sure I'll be dropping back in to post links. But if I decide to set up some galleries, I'll keep that in mind. Thanks for the invite to do so.

Take care of yourself and those furry critters of yours! I have very much appreciated your kind feedback to me over the years Sharon.

Ditto my response to Sharon (as regards posting links to galleries).

I have enjoyed seeing your "vacation" photos and all the positive comments you've left in my posts Lois Ann. All the best to you. I hope you continue to enjoy your photography. The joy it gives you has been evident in your posts.

Marc,

Your positive contributions have advanced the level of dialog here on OTF. Your insights will be missed.

I light off a few Canons myself, so our paths may continue to cross, though in a different neighborhood.

Good light be with you.

Not sure if I'll be posting much in the Canon forum. Might ask a technical question once in a while. Maybe I'll see you there. Thanks for the nice words. :)
