I have bought three lenses from Simply Electronics (based in Hong Kong) without any issues, but I have never had to return them either, so I can't speak to their customer service. I buy from them when I can't find a recently discontinued lens available in the US and it seems Simply Electronics seems to be the last source for discontinued lenses. I bought the impossible to find 18-250 Tamron from them in Alpha mount for hundreds of dollars less than the Sony version. My most recent purchases with them were the discontinued Tamron 17-50 f2.8 non VC version in Nikon mount and the discontinued Tokina 50-135 f2.8 in Nikon mount. Both Tamrons were made in Japan and the printing on the boxes said they were for US and Canada only. The Tokina was also made in Japan. All the lenses are as sharp as could be expected without any optical issues. Maybe I have just been lucky with Simply Electronics, but I really can't say anything bad about them from my limited experience with them.has anyone done purchases from this mail order business? any input will be appreciated. Could you perhaps explain on what grounds you base your opinion?in my opinion they are scam artists
Simply Electronics uses DHL tracking that lets you know the very minute your package arrives. I know because I have my lenses delivered to me at work and I usually find out the package has been delivered through DHL tracking before the front desk at my office notifies me! Also Simply Electronics always asks me to notify them when the package arrives, which I always do, and they respond with another e-mail acknowledging my receipt of goods. Did you tell them your order did not arrive? If you paid with Google checkout (like I always do), and there is no confirmation of delivery from DHL, then should be able to get your money back. DHL requires a signature, so it should be easy for them to find out who it was delivered to.they took the money never received the goods
Your other post made it sound like Simply Electronics took your money and you never got it back, but I see now, that it not the case. So I am now curious as to what was Simply Electronics explanation as to why you did not receiver your order?took me 6weeks 9 phone calls 7emails had to get paypal involved before i got a refund but i was still out of pocket for the exchange rate
Interesting. Either Simply Electronics has cleaned up their act recently, or I have just been very lucky with them. I have never been given any false DHL tracking number, (they were all legitimate), and on my last order they upgraded the shipping to a faster service at no cost to me. SE is not my first choice for mail-order buying because of the warranty issues, but if no other on-line retailer in the US has what I want, then I will not hesitate to purchase from Simply Electronics, based on my personal experience with them so far. There are many past complaints on the web-site about this Hong-Kong based company. When you order from them they debit your card/account immediately and then send you e-mails promising delivery details etc (often false DHL tracking). Seems that some instances people are lucky and get satisfaction but many do not. They are often the cheapest option on the web-site but frankly its not worth the hassle just to save $50 or more. After several complaints when I purchased a Sigma lens for £600 (Sterling) they eventually gave me my money back but it took a while. Many people have not got their money back and in law if you buy anything on your card for under £100 its not covered by the credit card guarantee. Basically, don't touch them with a barge pole!!!!!!! Stay away!! or you could be back here but in a very sorry state.
