I got a new LX 5 in early December and really like it there are 2 functions I use on my D200 fairly often that so far none of the new crop of serious compacts have.

Remote: I use it often when taking macros and with LX5 on mini tripod it is hard not to get some shake when pressing the button. I found I have to set the timer to 2 Sec not ideal if you set up on a shot and wait for a bug or object to settle odds are it will not be there in 2 seconds,

Bulb: I find great for Fireworks in conjunction with remote sometimes I want it open for 4, 6 or 8 seconds depending on the action can't do that without a Bulb setting.

This added to the 1.8 lens and the great OOC jpgs and Oly colors I get from my EP-2 is making me think I'll get one for my wife that of course I'll borrow from Time to Time ;-)

In the past I would not think of using a compact for those occasions but to have a little gorilla pod and a compact that produces good images opens up a lot of opportunities that I would not have attempted without a full kit.

UMMM maybe my wife will get a slightly used LX5 and I'll use the ZX-1. It's good to have multiple shooters in the family. I could not justify getting a ZX-1 and have both and I really like some of the options of the LX 5 and would not want to take a $ hit to sell it.
Times are good !

We are sure interested in seeing these new XZ-1 images, once you all get your cameras...especially those taken in low light with the high ISO settings.

I'm an LX5/LX3 user also considering the xz-1. But I differ in your assessment. There is a cable realse attachment for the Panasonic that attaches to hot-shoe made by Richard Franiec. One can use a standard cable release. Also, one can take longer exposures up to 60 sec. You just have to put camera in the Manual mode. Here are some shots on how I use the LX3/LX5.

LX5 with R72 infrared filter, ISO 800, 1 sec, Dynamic B/W

Barry,

Thanks I did not look into third party options. I plan on keeping the LX5 so will definably look into that item.
Loved the moon shot your setups look great.
