Australian Gull D7000, Sigma 150-500mm

The point of your original post being what?
That the lens can -not- produce a sharp image?
And that you don't know good WB?

Somewhat uncalled for, admittedly the white balance was messed up, and the image could have been a bit sharper.

However........!!!!

Perhaps some more subtle phrasing might have been more appropriate.

The lens is about 3 days old, still playing with it.

Stay cool

Ok, so, tell us, what was the point of your post?
But, guess you really don't have to have one, just felt good maybe?

Hi Ron,

I saw some lens forum guys observations (reviews) on this lens yesterday. I didn’t exactly study it (just before business trip to Europe) but noticed there are taking note of the lens 450- 500mm being a weaker spot of the telephoto. Anyway, you may be interested comparing your finds on the lens. http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1030&message=37505190

and Ratatosk joined with his a few lines below: http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1030&message=37511531

Taht could mean to set the 450-500 for ‘no other way chances’ and trying to get the shot by 450 gaining the edge.

I opened exif and see it’s iso 1000.. That is a useful piece of info when posting.. handheld or some support? My view is you could get better setting as 1/4000 is not needed, you could have gotten iso increase much lower n render quite a bit crispier. The shot is not bad at all though.. makes me think what this 500mm lens would pull with that iso setting.. also the wb tweak was a good move. I too think there won’t be many repliers as this is a camera on a periphery of the forum interest that is logically focused on d300 far more.

Best,

Hynek

Cary is as tactful as a hand grenade...lol Don't even click on his name.
Wonder why he is so angry with the world.

I think with a bit more PP you can pull a bit more blue out of the bird. Blue is reflecting
from above and below.

I wonder, haven't tried it. if cloudy WB in that senario would work. Must try it. Just remember to set it back.. Shoot raw.
Perhaps a bit of spot sharpening.
Do you have PS.. Might try shadow/highlights also to lighten the head and eye.
Sun was not on your good side.

Might take a bit to get used to that lens. It is a stabilized lens I believe. I have used the 50-500 Sigma and was not pleased, first time out with it.

I shoot with a Nikon 80-400 VR and it did take some getting used to. Over time it comes natural.
Cheers

Give the guy a break, he has posted on this forum a number of times with his older camera and I think he feels good about a new purchase. I would think this forum is for people to post and get any help in improving the knowledge they desire.

I am seeing the "I have the Best gear" syndrome from a lot of posters and they are losing the plot of a person whom just likes to feel good in showing his photos to others. A lot of us are not as good as the best posters when you see brilliant work that gets onto this site and I for one will not comment on a persons effort when they are just trying to be as good a photographer as they can be.

I have been using cameras for years but still fall into the average basket and may one day get it right ,but I have fun and the people I photograph are not critical of photos and are NORMAL to them and do not sit and try to find problems with shots.

I have no problem with anyone posting an image and would never try and be hypercritical but at the end of the day, when something is posted in a specific forum, I would hope there is SOME degree of relevance, otherwise, it's wasting my time opening it. I wouldn't think of just posting a D300 image in the D7000 forum unless there was something relative to D7000 involved. Just my opinion. There are lots of posters on the right forums who would be willing to help, I'm sure

Went through all this some time back. The general consensus was 'post wherever you like'...a bit odd I guess, maybe I might have a look at the other forum...but I have been posting here for years..or it seems that way.

A camera is a camera is a camera.....
If he needs help he should get it where ever he wants to post.
I am sure all of us started in square 1, remember.
Photography is photography.

Technique goes with it and if your are a good shooter help eveyone you can. I think that is a time to give back.
So get off your high horses and egos and help when needed.
Peace.
Learn to feel good about yourself by helping anyway in life you can.

I remember when I first started (not even sure what f stops were or even meant) and asked a question on the proper (if there is one) forum and got stompped on so bad, I have never asked another question here..
Thanks

I don't think it's that big of a deal, however, when all posts are related to the D7000 it really makes more sense to be posting in the D7000 forum IMO. Sure, others post here that don't have a DX00 camera but it's usually relevant to a DX00 camera or a general question/topic.
