Took a week off to see my mom (whom I have not seen since the tender age of 5) Found her on facebook. The new father thought I would like to go see a local covered bridge (and he was correct). I trudged through the new snow to finds some compositions slipping on the hillsides close to the river banks. I am sure he thought I was nutty. But I was pleased with the results.

Hope you all are having a wonderful new year.

If you never stop learning, you will never stop seeing the possibilities. ...

Nice, both the photos and hearing the story about you meeting your mother after so many years. Technology can be used for good things, not just the bad stuff that makes the headlines.

As a West Coast guy myself,
I have found the East is a surprisingly interesting place to photograph.

My wife grew up in Allentown, PA. There are a number of scenic
covered bridges in that area of Pennsylvania.

Thanks for posting,

Hi,

Great shots. I have seen covered bridges on visits to the US, but always wondered - why? Could our American cousins not swim if they fell in? No, some have even won Olympic gold medals for swimming. Were they avoiding wind chill? No, some have hiked to the Poles and up Everest. Did they not like getting wet? No, some have experienced rain! So I used your images as an excuse to look it up and Wikipedia gave me:

“Early bridges were often made of wood, especially where it was a plentiful resource. Wooden bridges tended to deteriorate rapidly from exposure to the elements, having a useful lifespan of only nine years. Covering them protected their structural members, thus extending their life to 80 years or more.”

Thanks for posting; learnt something!

Great stuff and perfect timing with the snow Roman, congrats on everything...when I read the subject line I thought 'what's this guy doing in Pa?' so far from home. Curious what lens you used.

I hope all went well on your first visit with your Mother after all these years.
Thank goodness you were able to locate her ... mothers are very special
no matter what the circumstances are.

As far as the bridges go, it is a covered bridge in the snow ... nothing special, nothing bad, but just a covered bridge in the snow.

Keep up the great work and may the quality of light always be with you.

We suffer from so little individualism, we are so quick to replicate rather than innovate.

Thanks, I used the Tokina 12-24 on these shots.

This meeting was blessed with good fortune. I know these kind of meetings can often go south in a hurry, not so on this particular one. We are quite happy to have found each other.

To each their own....cant expect to please everyone all the time. I try to appreciate all the world has to show me, even if I might be considered normal by many.
Keep up the great work and may the quality of light always be with you.
Same to you!

Thanks, and nice bridges you have down there in GA.

I find them intriguing much like rustic barns too.

It was as much about spending some time with my new father....
