I took the DSLR plunge!

Congratulations, Evan. A friend of mine has the D40 and really enjoys using it. Whenever my daughter is visiting from school (she is a photography major), I experience DSLR-envy; a condition Freud said was deadly to one's bank account. The low-light IQ is so nice, but especially the quick shutter response! Just like the good old days of film cameras. Enjoy.

congrats, I bought a Canon 20D WITH lens for less than I paid for my LX3 -worth the investment as a back up camera.

When I was looking at the Canon 20D, it was around $1500 new with the kit lens. You got a good deal!

If Today is the First Day of the Rest of Your Life, How Will You Spend It?

I wish someone would build a digital camera that would match my Nikon FA film SLR in size, weight, and build quality. Love that camera, but don't want to fool around with film anymore. I'm so totally spoiled by the ease of digital shooting.

Thank you, Daniel!

It doesn't have video or live view but I deliberately chose it for its 6 Megapixel sensor. Six Megapixels on a large APS-C sensor yields more sensitivity than 10 Megapixels on the same size sensor.
That's untrue. The newer cameras perform quite a bit better at higher ISO's. You've clearly misunderstood something there.
