Hello Everyone -

Sam here - typing on Tony's comp - as mine is downloading the pics...

We just walked in - it is 5:15pm here in Miami-

We shot over 150 pics - we filled up a 1GB microdrive.

I think we have some good ones -

Let my camera and computer finish downloading them - let me quickly review which ones to post (Good & Bad - I'll be fair) - and then I will post another message here to let you know they are up at my new pbase account....and give the pbase link again...

Wish I knew how to batch upload them onto pbase - any ideas?

I will be doing them one at a time - like yesterday - and it is BORING and LONG!

So, let me get to work -

Check back in about 1 hour -

=)

Thanks everyone -

And as I start to upload them I will let you know - I will put as many as I can - and will let you know when I start...

We have marcos - cool ones - some 70-200 tele and some 50-500 tele. Lots of bugs and flowers - should be interesting....

Pardon the typos - in a hurry - talk to you all soon...

Thanks
=)

I've never done it, but next to the "upload" button the list
the possibilities. There's .jpg, but there's also .zip

.zip would be the way, but I wouldn't know anything more
than that.

Hello Again!

I have some really nice shots I think - showing the detail of the camera and the lesnes I have -

Be sure to check out the EXIF data so you know the settings....

We took several on ISO 400 by mistake - but what a good mistake. The shots look great to me - even at ISO 400 - so look for that in the EXIF data also...

I will have some comments coming up - after I post these...

Here is the link:

Well -

what a day!

Have you ever seen to kids fighting over candy or ice cream? Or something like that?

Well - that was me and Tony - 'Give it to me", 'No - you just had it", "But it's my turn", etc...

And then these "You left it on ISO 400","You should check it","You should put it back!","Why is it still in shutter priority mode?","You had the timer on!", etc etc...

What a day! We laughed at ourselves.... Too funny. My poor little Sony 707 sat at home - We really wanted to focus on the SD9.

So we was fightin' mad at times - but it was all fun! =)

Anyway -

We are still learning how to use a dSLR correctly. It is hard when you see a shot, and you grab the camera from someone else - and realize that it is in manual - and you thought it was in auto mode - and the shot is blurry or under-exposed... So our learning curve is higher due to sharing - and sharing errors! =)

But some of the shots I am posting now are really nice I think - they show some of the detail the camera has - like the macro flowers, the bee's legs, the White Ibis' blue eyes and the Ibis' left foot/claw. Things like this - really neat I think.

I also wanted to post some street shots - showing the stop lights at day, the neon sign in the window of one business.. etc.

I may post a few more as the night progesses - I just wanted to throw something up for everyone to enjoy and study....

If anyone want a RAW file, email me and I will either email it back - or try to post it on Tony's Univ of Miami account....

Let me go and check on this upload - damn thing has been going for 20 min - although it is 23 pics in the first batch - all are about 2MB each...

=)

I forgot to mention - all are adjusted using the 'auto setting' from the software and converted into jpegs with exif data...

I didn't want to take the time to adjust some that might have needed it -

I know you guys would want to see them as quickly as possible -

I might do some mild adjusting on some and re-post -

Thanks

I’m surprised how well ISO400 looked!

I wouldn’t be scared using it, why should I bother how the “background” looks when the main subject look great?! This is like that Apple picture Phil took at the hotel; the background looked a bit weird, but the apple it self looked amazingly great!

I wanted to add that the focus on the Sigma is great - I think....

The problems with some of the pics posted today come from:

1 - New dSLR users.... Lots to learn! =)

2 - Sharing errors - grabbing and shooting without checking settings

3 - Windy! It was breezy today - even the tripod was moving

4 - Some of the first shots - with the orchids, heliconias, etc - were inside of a green house - and we should have used the tri-pod to get a wider DOF and been able to use longer shutter spped - but we were runing around. Live and learn.

But I do think that some of those shots (with good DOF and focus) show some amazing detail -

I am very happy with about 80% of what the software does automatically - the rest, I will adjust here and there -

I will contiure to review the shots we took - and maybe post another few...

=)

Yes. I was also surprised by how nice it looked. With my previous camera (E-10) I would never even try it. But I'm glad I did with the SD9.

Now, I will say that some pics we took at ISO 400 looked nice, others looked a bit grainier. I'll have to play around with those kinds of shots some more to see when it's worse.

By the way, later tonight we are going to try to clean that darn dust spot off.

Cheers,
Tony

I have an idea to keep the other person "occupied." Why don't you try taking the same shot (as close as you can) with the 707?

This will give the other person something to do and might answer some questions.

It would be nicer if you could use one of the similar DSLRs, but at least the 707 is a good Point and Shoot and should give some idea of when the orginal is really white, versus a color blow out.

Karl
