Cell phones are telephones, I won 3 currently but they are not cameras.
If you owned the worlds fastest Jackass you still cannot run it in the Kentucky Derby.
There is no place for reviews of TELEPHONES here, go to the phone reviews if you are curious.
Some seem to be missing the point: Nobody was suggesting that dpreview should feature actual phone reviews
as phones . But wondering 'Which phone currently takes the best pictures?' and 'How do these compare to those of a cheap compact camera?' are perfectly legitimate questions of many people (especially photographers).
I don't need a review to tell me that my dSLR takes better pictures than my phone (i.e., there is no 'race'). But as virtually every phone satisfies my phone-related needs (making and receiving calls) but not my image-related needs (taking snapshots that I can display and forward electronically, not print posters of) I'd like to know more about their imaging capabilities.
Likewise, I'm not considering replacing my camera by a phone. But as I always carry a phone, but not a camera, the quality of its pictures for me is a major purchasing criterion. And phone reviews typically just scratch the surface of this issue (e.g., by reporting megapixel counts).
Of course you're right that there are other forms and devices of 'digital photography' that dpreview currently doesn't cover. But given the ubiquity of cellphones I'd bet that a group review of their photographic features would attract a lot more attention than a review of yet another camera by (insert your least favorite brand here).
But I tend to agree that a dedicated forum could be enough. This way, those who care could discuss the issue, and those who don't could (hopefully) ignore the forum.
