Best Buy - Come On Already!

Best Buy's people are without a doubt...
In my area, Best Buy's salespeople are the pushiest in town, and they don't know the meaning on "no". (No, I don't want a service contract. No, I don't want a service contract. No, I don't want a service contract.)

They don't know what they are selling either. When I bought a computer there, the salesperson repeatedly insisted that that I buy the boxed version of Norton Antivirus. As it turned out, the computer already had Norton Antivirus, preinstalled by the manufacturer, at no additional charge.

"SKU is 4833933" according to Scott. I haven't check Customer Fullfillment yet, but it should be in. If the camera is not in the warehouse and Customer Fullfillment can't get it. You can still use your 10% off coupon by telling the rep that "you want to order with ORCA from store stock." Just a word of warning, if you ORCA from store stock you are not promised a delivery date but you would get the 10% off the G3 and when they get it in stock you would have it, and sometimes not everyone knows how to ORCA so you may have to talk to several people to get it done. After all said and done its much easier to do Customer Fullfillment.
At least in the computer system!

Stopped at Best Buy tonight. G3 is in the system and can be
ordered (at least in the midwest) and will be delivered by next
weekend.

I am keeping my fingers crossed!!! Ordered one and will wait and see!

I'm in Madison, WI. Our comp show 11/10/02. The truck comes in on Wed. So I'm thinking 11/13/02, unless it's drop shipped or it may come in on the truck that I have tonite then I should have it on 11/10/02 which is tomorrow. :-)

Does anyone know when Best Buy will add the G3 to its digital
camera line up? I have emailed their general customer service box
but have received the 'we don't know about new product release
dates but keep checking' response (which I can appreciate because I
am sure they want to sell through the G2 inventory). 'Why the heck
don't you buy it from somewhere else at a cheaper price and get it
now you moron?' most of you may be wondering. Well, my girlfriend
got me a $550 Best Buy gift certificate for my birthday
specifically for a digital camera because it's something I've been
wanting and waiting to add to my gadget collection, and after all
of the research I have done, I have decided on the G3. Of course I
would love to spend the $ on a new HDTV but that probably wouldn't
fly. You know how it is. So all of that being said, if anyone has
any info or any insider connections at Best Buy I would love to
know!

By the way, thanks to EVERYONE on this site and specifically in
this forum. I appreciate the postings/discussions and especially
the photos.

Best Buy periodically mailed out some coupons to their so called preferred buyers. usually one for one single item (vcr, digicam, ...), one for blank media and one for dvd or cd titles. It is good for a weekend (friday, saturday, sunday and sometimes monday, if it is a holiday). I don't know how you can be added to their mailing list to receive it in the future. Right now they have one of such thing going on for this long weekend. You may have to check with friends, neighbors, relatives to see if any of them received one and whether they can give it to you. Here is the copy of mine.

Can someone please tell me how I can get the 10% coupon?

Thanks,
Amr

Cool, let us all know if you get it if you don't mind! I am in La Crosse so if you get it before the La Crosse store (or other La Crosse photo shops), I will drive to Madison and pick one up.

Well, I tried, but no-go. I did manage to get the busy salesman to look up the SKU and it did pull up the G3. It's a busy screen and I don't know how to read it, but I did see the date 11-10-02, but all the quantities everywhere were 0. I showed him the info you supplied, but said he could not order it when there is no stock. However, he DID suggest I come back tomorrow and check again. So maybe...

I am anxious to get my G3, but what I should do is just wait a couple months. He says these 10% coupons come out about every 2 months. By then, they will surely have the G3 in stock plus maybe I will be getting a 2nd production run which might be a 'better' unit - pure speculation.

If the itch gets too bad, I may buy at Best Buy on-line. I save $66 in sale tax by buying on-line. I save $80 by buying at the store with a coupon. So the on-line price is only $14.00 more. I can eat in one night rather than going out and save that, so that's no big deal. I suspect the G3 will be available at BB on-line within a week.

After seeing Jen's comments in this thread, I went to my best buy in La Crosse and had them look up the SKU. They said that according to their system, it would be in stock tomorrow but the salesperson did say that he felt that the date might be off and he had heard that it would be in next week.

At any rate, I asked if I could pay for the G# now so I could use my preferred customer coupon. They said sure but, just as Jen said, they couldn't promise a delivery date. I was able to get 10% off (I think the coupons are good through tomorrow) and I also bought a 4 year extended warranty.

If I am extremely lucky, it will be in store as their system reports tomorrow. Realistically, I hope to have it by next week. The Customer Claim Check that they provided me has a listed "pick up date" of Nov. 20th but the salesperson wrote in "should be sooner". I will let you know when I get it.

I checked again today on how they found it and it was under the "RETAIL ZONE" in their computer system. In the WI warehouse they had 68 available.

So are you saying that they actually have 68 G3's physically sitting in a warehouse in WI for Best Buy stores? How long have they been sitting there? Are they waiting for G2 inventory to drop before introducing the G3?

According to the store reps, they arrived in the warehouse this weekend and are scheduled for delivery to the stores on their trucks during the next two weeks...I guess their warehouse is a central one for the region, and 68 cameras is hardly enough to put 3 in each store with the demo model.

They said this is very common for new cameras that are $500+ After the initial sell through they usually place a larger order. Best Buy has to show a big demand before they will stock a large number of cameras that retail for that amount....

Best Buy does enforce the restocking fee if you return a camera for a refund. They tell you that when you buy the camera and there is tape on the box that says there is a 15% restocking fee. If you are exchanging it there is no fee. When I exchanged a Canon S230 they had to check to see if it was an exchangeable item or if it had to be sent back to the factory and then repaired and returned to me. Luckily it was exchangeable.
Mine has had the G2 for quite some time, and they seem to be
nearing the end of their stock. So...

Have you ever had to return or exchange a camera with Best Buy? How
do they handle it?

Is the restocking fee automatically enforced? Or is it at their
discretion?

I'm an uncle!!!

That is great. I called my local BB (Cary, NC) and they claim that the G3 won't be there for a couple of weeks. The first customer-rep wouldn't let me do an "order" like yours... and the second rep hung-up the phone right after saying that they didn't have one. I guess they are getting burnt this weekend with the 10% coupons.

Anyway, I'll stop by later today and tomorrow to check if an order can be made so I can use my 10% coupon....

I've called almost every BB in my area and no one can order the G3. The most info I got was that it is in the system but they don't know when it's coming into stock. One salesperson told me it wouldn't be in until end of December or January!! I can't wait until that time...otherwise I have to get a G2.

From the above posts it seems the G3 is almost available in the Mid-West. Does anyone know if I can order it from a store in the Mid-West? Please let me know. I'm going on vacation at the end of the year and need some time to learn how to use the camera.

TIA,
Amr

I purchased my G3 from Best Buy store number 18 in Onalaska, Wisconsin. I went into the store today, which was listed on their system as their "in stock day" and they told me that they are expecting their G3's in on Tuesday.

I will let you all know if I get it on Tuesday.
