Best Buy - Come On Already!

Does anyone know when Best Buy will add the G3 to its digital camera line up? I have emailed their general customer service box but have received the 'we don't know about new product release dates but keep checking' response (which I can appreciate because I am sure they want to sell through the G2 inventory). 'Why the heck don't you buy it from somewhere else at a cheaper price and get it now you moron?' most of you may be wondering. Well, my girlfriend got me a $550 Best Buy gift certificate for my birthday specifically for a digital camera because it's something I've been wanting and waiting to add to my gadget collection, and after all of the research I have done, I have decided on the G3. Of course I would love to spend the $ on a new HDTV but that probably wouldn't fly. You know how it is. So all of that being said, if anyone has any info or any insider connections at Best Buy I would love to know!

By the way, thanks to EVERYONE on this site and specifically in this forum. I appreciate the postings/discussions and especially the photos.

I went into my local Best Buy store here in Plano, TX and asked the digital camera salesman when they were getting the G3 in. His reply was an unfriendly, "don't have a clue". I walked away. I have no idea why he was so rude to me - maybe a lot of people have been asking and he's ticked off because his management won't tell him anything.

I hate to discourage you, but I read in another post where Amazon is now stating they will have G3s by 12-30. Can you believe that Canon would blow off the whole Christmas buying season like that? It doesn't really bother me since I don't have to have the camera by Christmas, but I'm sure a lot of people, like you, would like to have it. Oh well, there's nothing we can do about it.

WOW!! I'm in the same exact situation! My gift card is for the same amount and it's from my gf, also!

I spoke with a few people at Best Buy and all have said they will carry it, but don't know when. I asked about the Olympus C-5050 (I've decided not to get it) and I was told it would in stock on 11/24! I don't know why they can't offer a date as to when it will be available. I don't want to use my gift card for anything else but a digicam and I'm getting really itchy and may just get a G2. I hate being in this situation!!

Thanks for the info. I'm in Austin, TX with family and friends in Dallas and Plano!

I have seen your warranty postings and have also had good luck with Best Buy warranties. Normally I don't buy extended warranties on anything but I did with my last mobile phone purchase from Best Buy. My personal opinion is that if it can be broken, damaged, overused, etc, what the hell. You never know. I bought a Motorala and the antenna broke off due to my own careless misuse and Best Buy replaced it with the model of my choice with no questions. One thing I have noticed is that the ink on my saved Best Buy receipts fades very fast for some reason. Not saying that it is intentional by any means but I now scan every one in just in case.

As far as warranty/insurance goes, I plan on adding the camera to my home insurance plan just in case it gets stolen, damaged, etc in addition to paying for the Best Buy warranty. I hope with this I will be covered in any circumstance.

It doesn't really bother me since I don't have to have the camera

At Best Buy stuff just shows up, we never know when, it kind of just appears. I keep checking the distribution center to see if it is on order, and so far no luck. Our internal website was just updated with all the specs and a picture of the G3, so hopefully not too much longer. But, as is true on any hard to get camera, such as the Nikon CoolPix 5700, it will probably be available on our website way before it is available in the stores.

Just in case you are curious, you can ask the sales rep to look up the SKU and see if his or her store has it on order yet, even though they won't be able to tell you when it will arrive. The SKU is 4833933.

Sad that I have it memorized, but I check every day to see if we are getting it any time soon.

I work for Best Buy. I have not seen the G3 show up in our inventory computer yet (better know as Green Screens to BB Employees). Sorry, we don't always get new stuff just right when they become available. By the way, Best Buy uses thermal paper, it fades particularly fast during Summer. :P

Best Buy's people are without a doubt the surliest, most ignorant people in the business. I think they're screened for these qualities.

I have been bugging the staff at Best Buy in the town that I live so they are quite familiar with me and what info I want (haha). They have looked up the order status multiple times for me and the latest update was that it would be available in my Best Buy in western Wisconsin on Nov. 10th. I will head over there right now over lunch and see if anything has changed.

Hey, thanks for the compliment!!

Actually, what do you expect when the corporation puts so much pressure on the employees to produce or get fired? The turnover is amazing, and so you get people who don't care and who don't know anything.

I consider myself very knowledgeable, and as long as the customer doesn't come in with an attitude, I make sure I am very helpful. So if you are ever at MY store in Asheville, NC, come and see me.

Stopped at Best Buy tonight. G3 is in the system and can be ordered (at least in the midwest) and will be delivered by next weekend.

I am keeping my fingers crossed!!! Ordered one and will wait and see!

Good news. Our computer shows a store in stock day of 11/10/02. We should be getting G3 instore anyday now. I can't wait. :)

You know not everyone that works there are not like that. There are camera reps that do the jobs because Digital Cameras are their hobby. People that walk in with an attitude makes my job miserable. :(

Still not showing up on the web, unfortunately. And I know for a fact that my store on the East coast doesn't have any in yet. Maybe I'll check tomorrow with the SKU number to see if they have it coming in.

OK, you stopped in at your BB and did what? Ask the camera salesman to check internal system? Then how do you order from a retail store?

I am very interested because this weekend I have 10% off coupon good for digital cameras. Could you describe the procedure for ordering a G3 from a Best Buy retail store. I'll go get one today if I can buy it for $720 and have it next weekend. Thanks for the tip!

Jen, where is your store located? I was told last week at my local BB that they would be getting the G3 in on 11.10.02 as well. Unfortunately, when I went in yesterday and asked again, I was told that it "probably wouldn't be in until around the 20th". It has become clear to me that the people in my BB simply don't know when it will be in. (I am in Western WI)

They can call it up in the system as a customer fullfillment and yes you can use your 10% off coupon. Exactly the procedure to use. They may try to tell you it isn't in the system because they want to get rid of the G2's first, but don't take no for an answer. It may not be in certain warehouses in different regions, but it is in ours. Delivery expected 7 days.
