Last doubts about FA 77mm limited purchase.

Thanks for sharing these fantastic personal images.

The shots in the pub - how would they look with a change to WB?

The picture of your father is outstanding. ISO 10,000!

I find that amazing. Even a little while ago such a clean image at that ISO would have been considered impossible.

Good stuff.
I agree with this in spades - fantastic image of your father, the best of the best. The WB is clearly off on your pub shots, but they should clean up nicely (assuming you shot in RAW)

Great images!

I think you should take it easy with the White Balance adjustment. If you make it day light it will look unrealistic. Our brains make white balance adjustments, which is why we need to WB photos, but our brain does not reset to day light 100%. So to achieve a realistic look you have to tune it a bit.

If I were the photographer I would leave them as they are.

That last picture is a credit to you, the camera, the lens, and your father.

The white balance is just a bit off, but that's probably due to the camera - it isn't the first time I've seen it. The orange cast is flattering, but correcting it really makes the image pop just a bit more. I could post an example if you'd like.

I processed all the picures from raw. I could have easily made them completely color neutral, but did not because I like the indoor atmosphere which you get if you do not compensate the warm color of the lightning completely. Also, I made some prints from tiff files with the same WB settings but adobeRGB color space and they look slightly better than than these sRGB JPEGs on screen. Mayby I will rethink it and push the color temperature button a little more to the left for images intended for email.

But use to have FA77. This is the only lens that I deeply miss since switch from Pentax. Go for it - you will not regret it.

Good Luck

If I were you I would catch the fa77 with out doubt.it is with fa31 and 43 the pentax advantage plus the old prime FA*

FA*200-fa 43 limited- dfa100 and some fa da lenses.

The Pentax limited series of lenses is quite honestly the ONLY reason why I use Pentax.

I bought the DA70 because in theory it is smaller, but in reality it is only smaller if you take off the lens hood and leave it behind. I always use a lens hood so in reality the size issue turned out to be a non-issue. I would like the longer reach and faster aperture of the FA77, but I'm not willing to give up the quick-shift focusing so I guess my DA70 is a keeper.
But how large is the FA77 when used with the lens hood?

A few days ago there was a post on this forum (wish I would have saved it) that showed the two lenses compared side by side a various apertures.

There is NO doubt in my mind that the bokeh of the 77mm is quite superior to the 70mm. I would say that if bokeh quality is of primary important to you (as it is to me) - go with the 77mm.

Otherwise, go with the 70mm. It's less expensive, and the resolution is more harmonious between the center and the edges.
I agree with your assessment. While I own the DA70 myself, whenever I see images from the FA77 (such as the ones that Brett posted here) they always make me go "wow". For me, the DA70 is good enough, but I still dream about the FA77.

You forgot FA77 is full frame. I have a DA limited 40 and I'm concerned the value will plummet if Pentax releases a full frame camera. But you can't beat the portability. You'll have second thoughts no matter what you buy.
Folks who have tried the DA70 on full frame (film) have found that it works well - there is minimal vignetting wide open.

+1.

After the k7, I sold all of my pentax gear and invested in FF. But I kept my 3 fa ltds. Waiting to see sony's new A7xx offer before I buy a k5, as it would be ideal for me to share lenses between my FF & aps-c bodies.

But even if I do go completely to the dark side, I won't sell those 3 lenses :)
