Have you dropped your S95 yet?

I was very fortunate. I grabbed my camera in haste, dashed out the door to catch a picture or two when I felt it slipping out of my hand. On it's way to the pavement, I somehow managed to catch it in mid air. Talk about an adrenaline rush!!

Does anybody else have a dropped S95 story with either a happy or sad ending?

I don't have a S95, but I never carry mine w/o the wrist strap on. I'm glad you were lucky and had a Happy ending.

Happy New Years and Happy Shooting.

I bounced a Fuji J10 off the concrete. Grabbed it , ran out the door, the wrist strap hooked the door handle and yanked it out of my hand. It bounced off of concrete. I picked it up and it works fine. Might even work better now that its got a bit of dings in it.

...funny that you should mention this. I dropped my S90 during this past weekend. What happened was, I was foraging through a book case and didn't notice that I had precariously placed it on one of the shelves. When I reached for a book, I knocked it down. First, bounced off of my left knee (I was in a crouched/ semi-kneeling position)... then, it rolled down onto my hardwood floor. But, it was a less than 2 foot drop... plus, my knee broke the momentum of the fall. Fortunately, I keep housed in a nicely padded case (Canon PSC-500) so, there was neither cosmetic nor mechanical damage... but, I learned my lesson (the hard way!) and, I now keep the camera placed on the floor and against the wall when not in use. I figure that it can't fall from the floor! Now, if there was to be an earthquake???...

I keep mine in a padded case which is stored in the center console of my car and is ready at all times for that picture opportunity of a lifetime.

Not a Canon but I gave my Sony H50 some tests in summer. On a motorbike holiday I dropped the camera on concrete 3 times as I kept forgetting I had it resting in my helmet I carried around! Then on way back I came of the bike and the camera tumbled down a hill while in a small tank bag but the camera works as good as new and has no marks....amazing!

I haven't and I hope I never do. I did drop my ZS7 on the rocky trail twice and another time it tumbled down a 6 ft rock pile with the lens extended. Some nicks to the body but no other damage internally or externally. Awesome build quality.

I've had my S90 for a little more than a year....... about 2 months ago , as I was shooting some photos , someone bumped my arm and my heart lept into my mouth ( figuritively ) as I felt the camera slide out of my hand . I looked down at the ground , bracing for the noise of camera to concrete contact , when I suddenly realized my S90 was hanging in mid-air still attached to my wrist by the wrist strap .......which until then , I used only about 20 percent of the time.

Lesson learned....... :-)

I ALWAYS use a wrist strap. Its the first thing i do when i pick it up. Even if im just taking it out of the case. You just never know.

Unfortunately for me in my above post the camera was balanced on a shelf and someone knocked the shelf.

And a considerable amount of luck I would say. LOL

Yes, about 1/2 hour ago. Right onto its face. If I believed in jinxes, then I'd say this thread jinxed me today.

I just went to Sports Authority, where I saw a jacket that I thought my wife might like. I took a couple of photos, went to put the camera back in its case, and dropped it from about sternum height down onto the terrazo floor. It bounced more than once. I picked it up, brushed some dust off, and it doesn't appear to have a scratch on it. It powers up, zooms in and out without any problems, and still takes photos. I haven't tested it yet to see if focus was affected, but I'm guessing its fine as mechanically the unit seems sound.

I can't believe this camera isn't at least cosmetically damaged. I think what saved it was when it landed, it landed almost perfectly flat, rather than bouncing off a corner.

I ALWAYS manage to drop my P&S cameras.

Dropped the S 95 as I was getting out of a small airplane it fell down the steps and onto the concrete tarmac. Works better than when I bought it!

Also dropped my Panny ZS3 onto a dirt road. Dusted it off and it works fine.

What's the point of having a P&S if you can't drop it occasionally?

Dropped my S90, now it only shoots Jpeg.
