The major retailers here in Sweden announced drastic price cuts for the D300s today. From SEK 13,690-13,990 to 9,990. One of the retailers even offers a gripp for free.

I can't remember ever seeing anything like that for a high end Nikon camera. The price cuts are announced as sales and are only valid for a few days, but there's no way they can get back to the old prices.

Maybe the D400 announcement is closer in time than we expected?

Regards
Lasse

It better be soon or i'm going for a second hand 50mm f1.2 to get my low light goodies, and Nikon corp won't see penny one of that investment. You can tell i'm getting impatient can't you?

No, it's the yearly Christmas off sale (Mellandagsrea). The D300s is just one of the items on the off sale, you can get many things considerably cheaper between Christmas and New Year, from straps to pro video camera. It's a very good price for the D300s, but hurry up, it will only last until 31st December.
Sure, and why do you think all of the retailers picked the D300s for the sale and how could they cut so much from the price? :)
This is not a regular retailer sale. It's a Nikon campaign.

BH & Amazon have it for $1,459... which is what they've pretty much always had it for.

I'd be happy to see the D300t, D400, D9000, whatever it's going to be called, but I just don't see any price reduction from the retailers I've been following for the past 6 months.

Not knowing how other countries operate, could it be that Nikon there is overstocked on the D300s and is trying to move inventory by the end of the year to avoid paying inventory taxes?

Just check the link above... ;)

No, I think you are wrong. There won't be a D400 for a few more months, so don't hold your breath. Buy the D300s now if you need one, but I am pretty sure that 1st January the price will go up.

the Best Buy D200 deal was a once in a life time deal. I have read that it was the combination of Circut City going under and Best Buy picking up their inventory of D200's and then the discontinuance of the D200 - they just had way to many they had to unload. If it had just been one of these things alone they never would have sold them at that price and it is not very likely to ever happen with any other Nikon DSLR

what was also really cool was that they sold it at that price with 18 months interest free financing if you used their Best Buy card.
Now that was a bargain. I picked one up. Unfortunately, there was no similar deal on the D300 when it was discontinued. They just disappeared.
