Keep em comin' ! Love these macros. Now THAT is one cool lookin' bug! What's with those antennae? His/her head looks WAY too big for the body.

...this two-headed kid I knew from Arizona had one hatch itself from his distended kidney.

He chased it around the yard trying to catch it. He had an advantage, you see, with his third arm and all, but his festering toe boil burst and caused him to lose his balance.

Lucky for him, the thumb coming out of the heel of his foot...

ok, I'm sorry.

ps- Great capture Bob. The B/G looks noisy but the subject looks good. And, I have no idea what it is. I'm not sure I wanna know either.

Eeewww!

I am sitting here with some kind of upper respiratory flu, and when I read your response, I started laughing so hard that I almost choked to death! It would have bveen YOUR fault!

I thought I was going to bust a lung AND a gut! You are a NUT! That was the best laugh I've had in a while!

Thats what I thought it looks like several insects wrapped into one.

I know the nuke plant is just down the road but I thought we were
safe :-)
This guy is less than a quarter inch long ! To me it looks like a
cross between a dragon fly & a bee.

Hey Willa,

Sorry about the butt gusting - er...uh - the gut busting. I hope you feel better soon.

ps- You haven't been to Phoenix lately, have you?

Cool Bug to PHOTO.

One scary thing to get STUNG by.. I'd stay away and not search for this thing again. You've done got your photo... LOL.. Stay indoors. hehe. Just for kicks send it to some bug web site and see what they say. Who knows could be some endangered bug and you might get some publicity for it or something.

I did some searches myself and didnt come up with it either - dont know what it is but it looks like a cross between a bee & dragon fly.

I'm pretty sure it's a hover fly, and not a wasp/bee. Flies have one set of wings, and small antennae, while bees and wasps have 2 sets of wings, and longer antennae. I cant find any pictures of a hover fly that looks excacty like Bob's, but here's some others (from UK?) that look like different sorts of bees...

Or maybe it's a "Thick headed fly" (What a name!), some pics here:
