I use a Metz 34 CS-2 Digital flash as an off-shoe/slave flash with a S30:

Assuming you are referring to using a Canon Speedlite off the G2 or G3 hotshoe, I use Canon's "Off Camera Shoe Cord 2" which I picked up for $50 at Wolf Camera, and then modified it to extend the length a great deal. the extending the cord sounds like a very good idea. I'll try it as soon as I can.
One thing, are the leads inside the cord colored (coded) so I don't mix them up?
