Well the camera came in today, but by the time I got home it was to dark to do any outside shooting.

My first impression, coming from the E-10, is that the feel is very nice and about as good as the E-10. I have only used the camera with my Nikon 50mm 1.8 lens at ISO 1000 indoors, but it seems to focus MUCH faster than the E-10 did when the E-10 was in good light. Can't wait to use my 70-200mm USM lens or the 24-85 AF-S.

This being my first camera with a removable lens, I was a bit nervous attaching the lens. It took more pressure than I thought it would.

Boy, I have a lot to read and learn. By for now, back to reading.

Hi Mike

Great to see you as excited as I was when I got my D100. After using it for a month I love it. Don't let the learning curve frighten you.

Was wondering where you got the 70-200 lens and where I can get some information on it. Don't see it advertised anywhere. Need coverage in this range which is about equal to 100 to 300 on a 35mm. Am currently using a 24-120 but really have a need for a longer stabalized lens. Would appreciate your comments.
Thanks
Jim

Mike, I too went to the D100 from the E10. Man I loved my E10.

Been playing here and there with the D100 for the past week and a half. I picked up my bloved E10 last night for the first time since the D100 came in. I was stunned at how chunky and slow the E10 realy felt.

I'm hooked.

Enjoy

John

Congratulations. Now just shoot, shoot shoot like mad, and enjoy.

And don't be timid with attaching or removing the lens. The Nikon F-mount is very tough and has stood the test of time.

Your knee is more likely to go than the F-mount is.

You will LOVE IT, came from and E20 here

I purchased the 24-120 lens 2 years ago after reading the excellent rating given by Popular Photography's complete review. After using it on my 8008's, F4, F100 and now D100 I have found it to be an outstanding lens. I really don't understand all the negative comments on this lens being shown on this forum. Being a technical person, I am really turned off by the unscientific "look at my dog" photos being posted here.

I have not tested nor like the majority of us, capable of testing the lenses available from Nikon and must rely on those who can.

To answer your question, the 24-120 is an outstanding lens so buy it if you want a range equivalent to 35 to 180 in 35mm camera language. This range covers most everything I shoot.
hold the camera upside down when changing lenses, helps keep dust out!

hi Mike,

Know just how you feel, I came from an E20, seemed like a massive step up, and it was!.

Bought mine with the AF-S 24-85g & 70-300g, had them just over 2 weeks now, and i'm still like a kid with a new toy, hey wait a min I am a kid with a new toy.
Regards
Lee.
