I pre-ordered from Amazon on 10/12, with ship date estimated at 11/5. Hasn't shipped and they don't respond to my e-mails. Anyone here gotten a G3 from Amazon yet? This is very irritating!

If they have not shipped, you should be able to cancel the order. Other stores have the camera in stock at better prices.

Unfortunately, I used a $50 gift certificate that expired 10/31, plus I got the cam at $759 ($709 after gc) and free shipping, Amazon now sells it for $799.

Who sells it for less than $759 including shipping?

Amazon.com is probably unable to get a straight answer from Canon. In spite of Canon's claim that "the PowerShot G3 camera will be available in October", I have yet to see one in any local store. When I asked Canon if there has been a shipping delay, they denied it. I guess Canon is going to drag their feet on releasing the G3 in quantity, until they are done dumping G2s.

I was able to talk to my local camera store into selling me a G3 for $799 tax included. I don't mind paying $40 more to have the camera in hand now instead of waiting. I suspect that by the time you get your camera from amazon, $759 will not be that good a deal. I mean at that time, other vendors will be offering better deal.

hanzzon,

There is a place online in which the Canon G3 with full US warranty is being sold for $709.00 The price is pretty good, but the shipping is a bit much. Hope this helps you with your quest for the G3.

Good Luck,

Terry

Jeff,

You have a good point there. I was just looking at the overnight shipping and the 69.95 gave me a bit of a scare. I would buy the camera from this site, but I already have a pre-order through HarmonyComputers.com they are selling the G3 w/ 1GB IBM MicroDrive for $959. So I am just going to try and wait paticently (sp?) for that.

Have a good one,

Terry

I ended up calling Bilibi.com to order my G3, HarmonyComputers.com pushed the ETA back to Nov 26th (fourth time their ETA has been pushed back). I will warn against one thing though.....when you call them they try like hell to sell you every accessory under the sun. I am a bit of a sucker so I ended up getting the 0.5 wideangle, 2x telephoto, and a 3 year MACK extended warranty for $299. Don't know if it was the smartest thing to do or not. People seem to make drastic decisions due to the anticipation. I don't think I would have been so eager to jump on this if I hadn't sold my G1 in September due to promises of the G3 coming in October. Oh well, now I just have to explain this to my wife.....hehehe

Wish Me Luck,

Terry

Would you mind sharing what local camera store this was? Or was it strictly local to your area?

Penn Camera. They have stores in DC, Maryland and Virgina suburbs.

I suspect that Canon ships cameras to these real camera stores first, then to the big chain stores like BestBuy and Circuit City, then to the mail order houses. By that time you can pick one up easily with 10% discount from various sources(dell, goodguys, buydig, to name a few). There is no point of waiting for amazon to save $40.

That sounds a little scary. The Canon wide angle is 0.7x and the Canon telephoto is 1.7x so what they sold you does not appear to be Canon. What brand, do you know? Non-Canon accessory lenses can have problems. Also the Canon lenses sell for $160 each so the two would be $320. I don't know anything about the Mack warranty. Also, as you know, the G3 has a new proprietary quarter-turn bayonet mount for add-on lenses. So to attach these lenses you bought, you will need a bayonet-to-threaded-end adapter. As far as I know, the only adapter available right now is the Canon adapter which adapts to 58mm. So your lenses would need to be 58mm. Sorry to burden you with possibly useless information, but I'm just concerned.

This company has a rating of 10 from http://www.resellerratings.com and has the G3 in stock plus a 3 year warranty for $69.00.

Shipping is $14.27. Not the best price, but seems like a good company from reading the reviews.

Thanks! Don't have those stores here in the Dallas area. We have Ritz Camera and Wolf Camera, now joined together.

But there are several (maybe many) people who have already bought and received their G3s. It appears that they got them on-line. So how did these rather unknown on-line retailers get inventory before the "Big Guns" like Amazon, B&H, Canoga, Adorama, Best Buy, Circuit City, etc? Seems strange to me - like maybe they have another path.

for $799 with no shipping and no tax from their on-line store, http://www.wolfcamera.com . They say they will ship the next business day. That's not a bad deal if you want the camera right away. Wolf Camera is a good company. I have been doing business with their retail stores here in the Dallas area for over 10 years.

But their extended warranty is OUTRAGEOUS! $246 for a 2-year which really means adding 1 year to the Canon warranty. I guess everyone has their gimmick!

I guess it would help if I included the URL

http://www.bilibi.com/shop/Product.asp?sku=PSG3

sorry about that!!!

Terry
You may want to check on bilibi in other forums. The complaint is that they ask you to call regarding your order and try to force you to buy their accessories (i.e. JUNK) in order to get that great price. If you resist, the G3 suddenly becomes "out of stock". When you add the junk and the shippng charges, their deal ain't so great

I just called them. They are out of stock. All cameras are on backorder.
