Get the Tamron over Canon 70-300mm IS

Some fact people don't know about Canon 70-300mm IS
  • Optical quality is close to that of $200 Canon 55-250mm IS
  • rotating front barrel (just like 55-250mm IS) makes mouting CPL frustrating
  • fake usm motor. Its a slower Micro-USM, not the speedy "Ring-Type" USM motor
  • so you basically paid $700 for an extra 50mm over 55-250mm IS
Tamron on the other hand
  • has REAL ring type USM motor, that tamron named USD
  • front barrel doesn't rotate when zoom
  • cost only $450
  • very positive reviews around the webs

I think i will go for Tamron because on web i found all positive reviews and canon is bit old lens aswell.
thanks to all of you guys for sparing time to reply i do appreciate that.

... Amazon has it.

I have this lens and am very pleased.

Disclaimer: I am in no way affiliated with Tamron.

I second that on the Tamron 18-270. I have used it for some months now and am completely happy with it.

Tamron makes some really go lenses. I think I might steer away from the superzoom lenses until you have filled the ranges you need first. then think of picking up a superzoom for those times when you can only take one lens and you need to cover a wide range.

I took a course in art last winter. I learnt the difference between a fine oil painting, and a mechanical thing, like a photograph. The photograph shows only the reality. The painting shows not only the reality, but the dream behind it.

I've just bought the Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 USM IS non IS though, and having read lots of negative reviews of very soft images at the longer focal lengths, I wish I hadn't. It's not arrived yet, but I'd go out on a whim and say get the Tamron.

I just received the Tamron 10 day's ago (Use it on a 50D) and am extremelly pleased with it. It is sharp, fast and great image stabilization. As a bonus, it looks great on the camera! I pored over every review, every forum that I could find and for IQ the Tammy beat out the 70-300 is. Having a non rotating front element, ultrasonic drive with full manual focusing, lens hood, price and rebate (If you hurry) it is a no brainer. I couldn't be happier....OK maybe with a 70-300 L, but that's not going to happen!
