which, in your opinion only please, would you say has the best image quality of the fuji point and shoot models? F20, F30, F31, F70, F200, etc.

i realize that most will have a difference of opinions, but i am looking for all opinions. please remember, everyone is entitled to their opinion, so allow them please.

thanks

f200 has the best detail retention, least noisy.
f300 has the best white balance, dynamic range, and overall picture appearance.

Probably X-100 :P

For best high ISO/low light performance it's still the F30/F31fd. DPR's review gives a slight edge to the F31fd but I doubt that most photographers would notice any difference :
And so, to sum up; the F31fd is everything the F30 was, with a couple of tweaks here and there that - on balance - can be considered to offer a slight improvement over what was already a uniquely capable camera. I suspect (though I hope I'm wrong) that this is the last time we'll see this sensor in a compact camera, as Fuji feels the pressure to keep up with the megapixel race ever more strongly. This would be a real tragedy; the F31fd hits the image quality 'sweet spot' by using a large sensor, relatively low pixel count and some very clever processing, and I can't see them repeating this with a more densely-packed sensor. It is the perfect illustration of the oft made point that more pixels do not mean better quality; we've compared the F31fd to a whole range of much more expensive compacts going right up to 10MP, and - aside from a little extra resolution at base ISO - it puts most of them to shame. Once you get to ISO 400 there simply isn't a compact on the market that can hold a flame to it.

For better overall performance, the EXR cameras have (finally) stabilization and much better dynamic range, both of which contribute to image quality. With its larger sensor the F200EXR has a slight edge, but if you can't get close enough to the subject, the F70/F80/F300 would have the IQ advantage due to being able to zoom in closer, avoiding cropping which just throws away pixels, reducing IQ considerably.

the f300 is on my radar, but i have strong concerns about the flash. i also have noticed it has come down in price considerably lately also. Which may be a good thing..

would love to find a new f30, or f31, but that is almost impossible. i refuse to buy on ebay...lol

my sister has the Z700exr and hates it. not sure she knows how to use it.

thanks for the opinions though, and thanks for keeping it civil.

Same here, but I don't mind buying used. KEH is reputable and usually has a number of Fuji's, but neither of these at the moment. B&H is also a good place to check and not too long ago had an F30 and very recently had an F50fd. None at B&H either, but they just got an S100fs in very good (9+) condition. The F50's sensor is 12mp which is pushing things a bit, but it's a large 1/1.6" sensor so it still does pretty well compared with recent Fujis. At under $90 (the F30 may have been less) they're very good buys, but the F30 is hobbled by its xD requirement. Prices of the last remaining xD cards at B&H has plunged in recent weeks, from $20 to $13 for the 2GB Type M+ cards.

The Z700EXR may not be usable by anyone, at least according to this :
Clearly you never shot the Z700EXR. Makes the F300EXR look like a Leica.
Sheesh it must be really Bad then - isn't the F300 even worse than the F70 ? .. Just shows how far Fuji have regressed since the days of the F200 let alone proper SCCD HRs which actually gave more than their pixel count's worth of detail instead of Half (or worse than half) ..

This is why the S100 is miy Sole Fuji (my F200 is very dead)
The Z700EXR has one of those periscopic lenses so that the camera can be designed super thin. It is really nice looking but produces god awful images. Really really bad. I mean incredibly bad images. Stunningly bad. Ok, you get the point. Truly a case of form over function.

There are many folks like you who have honest questions about Fuji cameras in FTF, and these are very valid questions to ask. Just IGNORE the members who like to pick a fight.

I think if you want EXR, the F200 is probably a good choice--Lloydy has taken some excellent pics with the F200. The F300 is the next/newer option for better zoom.

I would love to have the big sensor F31, but like you I wouldn't want to buy used, especially on ebay.

Good luck.

they have both been placed into my ignore list, and will never be responded to again. i have also sent a complaint about their behavior. some people just cant see past their own angers and hatred in life. sad.

thanks for the opinion. i have been looking at the F300, but have also read some concerns over the flash unit and noise levels. the price is coming way down also which could be a good thing or a bad signal. but thanks again for your words and opinion.

me too. fuji, should reconsider and start producing that camera again. that would be a no brainer for me if they did.
Good luck.

yeah...lol. that one is not on my list then. i have seen some of the pix from my sisters camera, and they are all washed out. i just thought she did not know how to use it. guess that answers that one...lol thanks.

The best way to answer this question is to understand how the camera will be used. P&S' see a lot of general duty...outside in harsh or low (sunset) light w/long zoom, inside in low light w/wide angle, flash fill, flash supplement, video, kids sports (action = shutter speed control), concerts, etc.

Some of these cameras offer more control than others. Some of these cameras are far superior in outdoor (read: harsh light) daylight. Some have larger sensors and due well indoors in low light. Some have more NR than others. Some of OIS.

"Best IQ" is contextual...let people know the context and they can help you better I think.

Best cam for someone is also contextual...a better understanding of your husband's skill, aptitude, interest, commitment will help to choose a cam that perhaps you will determine he'll like or use more. In a sense, IQ doesn't matter if someone is so frustrated with the constraints, limitations, feature set that they won't use the cam or refuse to adapt. In other case, there are some recommended best shooting modes for EXR models, the homework done by others can simplify the otherwise potentially frustrating process.

At one time or another, I have owned all of the cameras you mentioned and still have the F70, F200 and a broken F31 I am sending to Fuji for repair if they can do it.

Overall I have to say the F200 is the way to go because of its combination of EXR and larger sensor that gives it a noticeable advantage over the F70 as the light falls.

If your husband intends to use the camera in reasonable to good outdoor light then the F70 is good alternative because of the extended zoom but if you want slightly better IQ overall and much better IQ as light starts to fall, go for the F200.

Overall I would take the F200 before the F31 etc because of the EXR which effortlessly gives beautiful images in all outdoor lighting conditions. Blown skies, the curse of most cameras unless you are careful, become a thing of the past.

For low light even thought the F31 is unbeatable amongst F series Fuji's, I switch to my Nikon D40 which takes low light performance to a whole new level by comparison.

they have both been placed into my ignore list, and will never be responded to again. i have also sent a complaint about their behavior. some people just cant see past their own angers and hatred in life. sad.
Next time around, Happy Debbie, tell us who you have not complained about. The list will be way shorter.

thanks for the input. i know he has also looked at the panasonic FZ40 for zoom reach, that is why the F300exr is a front runner because of its reach.

that one is easy, and you will clearly be able to tell by who I respond too. fair enough?

Debbie recently advised me to watch certain members behavior, that raised a red fag to me. I have found that whenever a busybody like her tells me to watch OTHER people, it is their behavior that should be looked into. Funny how she is so quick to hit the complaint button, and then announces it. She tries to weild that button like a weapon to anyone that would question her.

Be sure to annouse what camera you get for your husband, and maybe post a picture?

Rethink your last comment.

I would go with the F300 before the Panasonic because of the benefits of EXR and the compact size. Also I forgot to mention the F70 and F300 have Pro Low Light Mode which I have tried and works well on the F70. This helps overcome the low light IQ problem of these smaller sensors.

thank you. i had not read about that at all. perhaps I need to read more...lol

i just noticed the f300exr has dropped even more. may be the way to go. i cant believe how much this camera has dropped recently though.
