Competitor to FujiFilm X100?Member said:Sony, on the other hand, has announced it is considering making its interchangeable lens standard an open one , to assist growth in its mirrorless camera business. The disclosed strategic plans are built around the NEX-5/3 released in June 2010. In-house investigation has already begun on disclosing the E-mount connection standard used with NEX-series interchangeable lenses to third parties, according to Masashi Imamura, SVP, Corporate Executive of the firm (Fig. 3). Sony hopes to gain a more complete line-up of E-mount lenses by disclosing the standard.

Another problem has surfaced with the switch to larger imaging devices, not only in SLRs, but in mirrorless and compact digital cameras as well: handling heating. The problem is especially urgent when it comes to cooling while shooting video. Sony went so far as to issue a warning about the problem for its α55/33 interchangeable-lens digital camera, using an APS-C-size imaging device, on Sept. 27, 2010, and updated the content the following Oct. 7.
