I have now owned my new LX3 for 6 months. It replaced a pentax dslr and lens and I have absolutely no regrets. My thanks to the helpful people in this forum for their tips on settings, encouragement and comments on photo's. And of course for a few laughs when peoples enthuseasm got the better of them.

As someone on the wrong side of 50 and bought up with film my description of the LX3 would be that it is a near perfect compact rangefinder with one of the best lenses ever produced. It is superb.

Even though the LX5 came out not long after I bought my LX3 I have no regrets and no intention to upgrade.

I few of my favourites taken in the last 6 months. Happy Christmas.

Well done images! I agree completely about the LX3--it's a real gem, a great intro to the digital imaging world after a long run with film. As for being on the wrong side of 50, just wait till you hit 60. After that there are no sides to be on, just being period ... whatever that means. LOL!!!!!!

You have a keen eye and your photos are inspiring. Congratulations on 6 months with the LX3 from one who is on day 6 with his LX5W.

Hello Russel

Great set of images - sharp and very well composed. Hard to pick a favorite but I love the 5th one with the bridge and its reflection on water. Just beautiful!

Rick

Thanks all for the nice comments.

Alessandro the 2nd is taken at La Cigale french market in Parnell in Auckland. I'm glad you did the walk in the karangahake Gorge during your visit.

Rick thanks the bridge shot was taken in a small seaside town called Raglan.

cheers

What a terrific set of shots, Russell! You aptly demonstration your skill as a photographer, as well as the quality of the LX3. I agree, it is a great camera. Mine is never too far from my side.

That bread got me hungry. The lizard, bridge/sunset and harmonica player are my favorites.

Happy holidays to you too.

Like your photos... I will also keep my LX3 and doing 10 really good out of 1000, no matter what camera, is about my yield too... :-D
Urabn, happy not paying for the film any longer

--Lovely set of photos Russell I totally agree with you on the LX3 i am in my 60s if i do decide to get something with a bigger sensor fine ok but the little tool stays by my side :)

An excellent portfolio of images: bread, stairway to light, bridge into sunset and the green lizard are the standout shots for me. Thanks for sharing.

If I can get anywhere near these with the LX5 Santa is bringing then I'll be very happy indeed.

Thanks Lee,

I have thought about the larger sensor cameras and to be honest at print or screen size I don't think there is any advantage apart from maybe dynamic range in tricky light situations. Having watched technology advance over the last 35 years (since I was a teenager) it seems to me that it is only a matter of time before smaller LX3 size sensors are as good as full frame 35mm is now. I know the technology is not capable at the moment but give it time.

I believe thats where the advances in digital photography will come, not in NEX style larger sensor cameras with small bodies and large lenses.

The LX3/5 is a near pefect camera, imagine it with an image capability as good as any DSLR without having to use a larger sensor. It will happen one day and possibly sooner than we think possible.

In the meantime I am more than happy with the results I get. Noise is just grain - so what I'm use to that when the light is low. Its the perfect exposure and that oh so sharp lens that do it for me.

cheers

I agree with what others said...beautiful pics!

I just got the LX5 and love it overall. The only issue I'm running into is not loving how some portraits look when I take photos of people (some look oversaturated / washed out / like they have too much makeup on).

I saw from another post some of the settings you have on C1, could you tell me what you typically have set for Contrast, Sharpness, Saturation and NR? Also do you typically use JPEG or Raw?

Thanks!
