Hello! new to DPR forums long enough time POTN member just being bored!

Images shot with 5D with 85 1.8 with reflector. CC if you would like.

Lets see if the pic will actually show up! Might need some help, for some reason i just can never get a pic to show! EDIT: It worked!

Ryan,

Just so you know #2 was REALLY hard to....make work and i did about all i could do to it...its pretty heavily PP'ed...be gentle :)

Also #2 I believe was shot with a 50mm 1.4

Ryan,

I find the composition on the first two a bit too disjointed and messy... too many elements leading me off frame... and I dont think the lighting is strong enough on the first..

The third picture is much cleaner... and has a snese of humour.. So I like that quite a bit.

Striving hard to be the man that my dog thinks I am.

I like #1 but i will brighten it up a little and see how that works, i had to crop it a little cause i wasnt paying attention to having everything straight. I cropped about 30% off of it.

The Mom i took the pictures for(a friend), really loved #2...So I did my best with it that i could. I will brighten that one up as well. The lighting from the window in the background is alot stronger then it seems and i had to work against that so it wouldnt be too distracting. She had everything set up for me when i got there to take the pictures and new what she wanted them to look like. Unfortunately the 5d also missed focus a little in #2 as well....just soooo many things working against that particular photo... its also a crop as well to get as much of the window out of the frame as i could since it was such a strong light source.

Im glad you like #3, thats my least processed picture and i thought it turned out really well as well.

Ryan,

Adorable, of course. I like them all. I'd prefer less vignette on #3. The out of focus bow in the foreground of #2 distracts from the very cute subject.

You have a great model there. Tough subjects at that age. You did great.

Thank youo very much! I will do a little less vig and see how i like it!

What do you guys think about the temps? I was using the xmas hat as a white bal stand point. One again 2 was the hardest to get the temp to look decent since there was so many light sources.

Ryan,

I haven't read all the posts yet but I think #2 could have less clutter and more subject. # 1 could be made to pop with a dark green or dark red background, too much white

Think backdrop when you set the shot up

Ryan,

:)

I did! I used a white one and 1 and 3....not 2 :( should have used one i 2...that would have made the lighting easier

Ryan,

Hmmmm...PP maybe?? :) lets see what i can pull off in CS5!

Ryan,

I like them very much, especially the first and the third.

All the criticism about technical aspects is irrelevant. These are happy pictures of your child that you will treasure all your life, so who cares what anyone else thinks, especially about technical aspects.

I love the pictures, but do find the package in the foreground to be rather distracting. It tends to pull my attention away from the subject. Maybe darkening it would help. In spite of that, the expression on his face in #3 makes it wonderful. As someone else mentioned, the white background in 1 and 3 doesn't help. The tree in #2 is much better. I'm being pretty nitpicky. Any parent would be proud of all three.

Thanks you all for the kind words and advice!!! I dont have much to work with right at this point in time. A flash would have REALLY helped along with the reflector.

The tips about the back ground will help with the next little shoot I have with him. Im doing this for a friend...so that mean free...she set up most of it...back ground ect...to her liking
Thanks!

Ryan,

forget the white backdrop

just get the complete xmas backdrop in the backdrop --and get a closeup to get the expressions

take about 100-200 to get 1

Ryan,

These are to be a Christmas Card. I'm looking at the child first instead of the rest of the photo. The first photo shows the child waving and looking right at me. I think that is the way to go. The second one seems uninteresting to me, just a child with something in its mouth and as to point out the focus isn't great. The third one I suppose has humor, in that he appears to be cross eyed looking at the ornament, and has his nose out of joint, but it doesn't seem to have anything to do with the box. I suppose if the card says something cute then the third has some family potential, but after all it is the parents who will choose. Photos of an infant/toddler are really time limited as they tire of posing instantly and that's a real hurdle. Unfortunately, this child decided that getting something in his mouth was important and you had to work with that.
