[PIC] My car -- let's see yours!

My new 2003 BMW 540i.
If you'd bought a 7 series, I'd tell you to watch that hockey puck
-- some reporter once grabbed it trying to panic shift into reverse
when someone pulled in front of him, and ended up changing the
radio station! Obviously, I don't think much of iDrive. (Doesn't
that sound like an Apple product to you? ;> )
I've driven the 7 a few times, and I agree ... iDrive seems like the answer to a question no one asked. It allows you extreme control of a bunch of functions most people change one time and then leave alone. ;-)

The 540, for now, is pure ... just honest zoom and good handling. Next year when they restyle it, though, they'll probably add iDrive! LOL!

Please check your numbers (and quote the right ones)

BMW M5 (right off BMW USA's site)

0-60 in 4.8
other sites quote the 1/4 mile to be around 13.2

Various sites online quote the Vette's time to be 4.6-4.9 with a 1/4 mile right around 13.3

either way and in either case, your looking at pure driver skill to call the winning car...

Now... frankly, the M5 is a 4 door, 5 seater, the Vette is a 2 door, 2 seater...

I will admit, The M5 won't necessarely beat the Vette, but it'l stay door to door - with a car thats a purpose built american sportscar (that ways 900 lbs less).

Now, I'll also admit, The M5 is almost twice the price:-P but eh, what can you do:-D

But please, dont' call my a liar until you double check your own numbers.

-Scot
The BMW / USA web site indicates that the M5 with a manual 6-speed
transmission and 394 HP can achieve 155 MPH, 0-60 MPH in 6.4
seconds, and 13/21 MPG city/highway fuel consumption. The
respective Chevrolet web site rates the standard 350 HP Corvette
6-speed as capable of 175 MPH, 0-60 MPH in 4.6 seconds, and 19/28
MPG city/highway. No doubt both manufacturers use professional
drivers and obtain results that few of us could ever realize but
the fact remains that the Corvette has superior performance.

Fully restored and I'd drive it to Ca. I ran VW through Hi-School and College and then some. My wife and I have many good, and funny memories from those days, and yes we still giggle when we get in it on Sunday afternoon drive!...LOL

Taking a break for the moment from the avian photos -- though I'll
have some more of those soon.

please tell me that's a 4wd Turbo...

The 4wd DSM's were perhaps some of the greatest bang/buck cars ever made... (if the owner put his $$$ in go, not show)

Sorry to disappoint ya Scott, but its not the GSX........I couldn't swing the GSX dollar figures 8 eight years ago. I agree with ya whole heartedly about the bang for the buck statement! After only a few hundred dollars of modifications they can easily run in the very low 13's - high 12's. Right now I have my eyes on either the Nissan 350z or the Infiniti G35 Coupe...I can't decide which way to go though. Either way, I'm still not giving up my Eclipse :O)

My mate in Texas bought this '96 Explorer on my behalf, it belonged to his wifes sister, 1 owner, full service history, $4000.

My wife and I are flying out to Texas tomorrow to pick up my new UZI,and Explorer, staying with them for a week and then driving to Scottsdale AZ.

I could'nt afford to run one of these in England with gas at almost $6.00 per gallon :))

'59 GMC .....

Just kidding....but wouldn't mind restoring it...if I can talk the brother-in-law out of it.

My first and last 4X4, because I'm going to drive it 'til the wheels fall off.

I've had someone tell me that BMW wagons are a sacrilege.
A friend of mine from an online chat forum who I think is a bit loopy in the head. ;)
I highly reccommend them (I've driven a 325Xi at an autocross
before actually... very solid car.. rolls a bit much for my taste
(the added weight will do that), but still turned in solid numbers.
You can fix that by replacing the suspension. My Golf has bad body roll problems that can be fixed by installing the H&R Cup Kit suspension, for example, or a similar aftermarket kit. Which I hope to do sometime next year.

Not in my book... (o: Our snail slow A4 stock Vette does 13.32 in a 1/4 mile... and it dyno'd well below normal.....but not for long... heh, heh...

Now the C5 M6 will easily run high 12's or 13 flat in a 1/4... and a Z06 will run high 11's with no mods what so ever... Besides... IMHO there ain't no prettier eye candy..

but
the fact remains that the Corvette has superior performance.
And I have to agree with the above.. (o:
