Anyone has to share some bokeH king images, preferably shot with film?

I am quite curious as to why it's called a bokeH king and I'd like to analyze the images... To see how buttery smooth the bokeH really is. How Creamy it goes.

If you really want to analyze a lens or just one of its characteristic, you'll have to get one of your own and use it in all sorts of situations.

Since 'bokeh" is the subjective quality of the out of focus gradient, bokeh will be in the opinion of the beholder. Take a lot of pictures, form your own opinions and avoid competative bokeh shoot-outs.....;-\

What a shame!

I won't buy a lens just to test it and then return it. That would make me one bad customer and there are too many bad customers these days, purchasing lenses, use them and return them for a full refund. I think what you just said is so unethical it's a shame.
Please don't encourage such behavior.

Now, let's not forget that these GEAR DISCUSSION forums have a purpose so let's be SMART and let's take advantage of it.

So, do you own one of those so-called bokeH kings? Have anything to say about it?

The 35/2 mark4 is the "bokeh king" isn't it? I have that lens but I don't think the bokeh matches that of my 50/2 and 90/2 seen in the poppie photos in my gallery. Those 2 photos show a beautiful wash of colour like a water painting - someting you wouldn't get with a consumer zoom for example.

So you don't really want to analyze, but just get a quick glimps from which to jump to a conclusion. Nothing unethical about my suggestion, I just thought that you were serious.

Yes I have the vr4 35 cron (if that is the lens that you are refering to). I have had it since 1994 and used it on an M5, M6 & M8. It is a nice lense and usually gives nice bokeh. In some circumstances (which you will have to learn) it will give not-so-nice bokeh. I owned the lens for almost a decade before I heard the term bokeh king. Bokeh is very subjective, but I prefer a steaper gradient, as found with the 50mm focal legnth.
Learning lenses take considerably more time than 90 days or any return period.

Here are a couple. One was taken with a 50mm German made lens with film. The other with a Sony kit lens digitally. Which is which?

Whoopsie, I need to learn how to hide the metadata.

Whichever camera took the second photo was unable to focus on the subject's face, unfortunately.

If the OP isn't a troll, then I'd suggest looking on flick and searching for whatever lens he choses. It doesn't take long to see that some lenses have a really ugly (in my opinion) and jittery bokeh. I see this from many of the newest lenses, especially the aspherical leica lenses, and the Zeiss 50.

Also, I would not judge a lens than can totally blur the blur the background into mush like most teles can shot up close with a distant background. I would judge the quality of bokeh by a background that still has some detail in it--that is much harder to render in a pleasing manner. In those types of photos, especially with normal and wide lenses such as a 35, it seems to my eye that older, less corrected lenses tend have a more attractive bokeh in more situations.

The second picture is from a scan of a slide. In 'real life' it is a gorgeous slide. The scanner muddied it up and the warp of the slide caused the 'oof'. It was taken with a Zeiss 50mm Planar on a Contax RTSIII.

I am not a Leica owner, but I enjoy much of what I see on the forum. I also enjoy the usually nice chat I see here.

If you would like to see images from any particular Leica lens or Zeiss lens visit leicaimages.com and zeissimages.com. You can search their galleries by lens, focal length, aperture, and various other parameter.

Enjoy your search.

Aubrey,
Thanks for the heads up!
Leicaimages, that site is brilliant!!!!

Bruce,

Glad you found it helpful. They also have one called nikonimages.com. I recently went to the dark side (Nikon) from Olympus, so I frequent that one looking at various lenses.

Have a great weekend!

From the 'Dark Side'?
Me LOVES my Nikons!!!

Bon Weekend!!

Keep the fun real.

This is my queen shot with my bokeh king, the new 35 'Lux. Out of focus area is absolutely untouched and to my eyes, an absolute photographer's dream. Which proves once again that this lens will certainly keep you guessing as to what kind of bokeh you're going to end up with. Sometimes beyond butter smooth and worth every penny and then other times it's like a very expensive bad dream. lol! I guess the point may be this. Bokeh this good isn't something that happens by itself or simply because you've ponied up the cash for a certain lens. Takes a little technique, too.

Google search is a amazing tool.

What kind of reply is this ...really?!

The OP asks a polite question - possibly one asked many times before ...but he does so here on DPReview, as surely this is one of the most centric forums on the Internet for good helpful advice/feedback on such matters ......and you, tell him to use Google!

Bo, why don't you turn this around, and amaze us with your knowledge on the subject, and I'll hold my breath and wait for you to do so ...until I at least turn blue and pass-out!
