"Magic" Lenses for Canon?

No harm done.

I shot the 2.0 a time or two and liked it. I've been thinking of buying one for awhile. I'm really impressed with Zeiss glass, but I have to stop myself somewhere, though my best guess is that I'll own that 35mm before end of 2011. Take care.

Looks like a great value - I need more patience for manual focusing though :) But price is great.
Manual focusing an ultra wide angle lens is not an issue. The depth of field is enormous. Set it at f8 and everything from 7 feet to infinity will be in focus, f11 hyperfocal distance is 5 feet (based upon users test with 5DII from the DPR thread I linked to a few posts above).

That's exactly how I shot with that lens on my 1DS2, most of the time I just use F11 and 5 to 6 feet and fire away and don't seems to have any focus issue at all.

To me the 14L is way way too expensive for the quality you are getting, I rather spend that money on the Zeiss 21 and/or TSE 24 instaed, which is exactly what I did, got the Samyang 14, Zeiss 21, TSE 24. The TSE 17 will be my next, I will for sure pass on the 14L.

three very good and useful lenses for a small asp-C camera

Canon 10-22, enough of a reason to get a crop body
35L f1.4 (your normal walkaround),
70-200 f4 I.S.

maybe 100L macro...

Magic
24L mkI or mkII, 35L, 85L, 135L (85 and 135 start to become special purpose)

also a lot of folks like the 10-22, 24-105 combo...
wide range walk around

to that add the 24L/35L and the 100L macro/135L
for a 2 lens - low light - prime kit

just my opinion of useful AND magic

A great thread. Much good info here. I'm looking at the T2i myself; very encouraging to see nobody making a "pearls before swine" comments regarding it being paired up with lenses that cost twice as much.

nice shot

as William said ...the lighting..
also for me...the composition..
and good choice for background dist to allow blur to show nice bokeh

and model is quite nice....
it would be hard to choose lips or eyes for focus..
but the lips seem to want to show-off here

great showing of the lens ability and your taste

Everybody agrees or likes Canon's 70-200mm series of lenses.
well, true but it is a very basic bread and butter kinda lens , so for me it is not so spcieal as I can call it a magic.

so , for me it has to be the 85LMKII or the 24LMKII.

oh for me , the 17-55f2.8IS was a magic but I cannot use it on my 5D2.
Beyond that, it is a lot of preference.
Some lenses that get good praise are the 17-55 IS, 24-105mm L, 24-70mm 2.8L,

all the macro lenses. A few others that get some great votes and may fans. but I can honestly say only the 70-200mm series is the only lens I have read on for almost any brand that nobody says is bad.

I agree... we all have your favorites. Mine is the 24-105L. It does wonders for me. But I know even thoughs you don't find the 70-200mm series range suiting for them, still admit it is sharp and great IQ and all the good stuff. I don't use mine much but I must admit it is fantastic if I do use it.

But going down list of favorites... Hmmm... we will all throw up virtually the entire list of Canon lenses with all our opinions.. lol

Simple answer for me: TSE 17 and TSE 24 II.

Not that the other Canon lenses are bad, but if I have to use the word "magic" to describe it, it better be it's so special that you can't find it elsewhere, so the TSE 17 and TSE 24 will definitely fit into that category. While Canon is not the only company makes Tilt-Shift but for these two particular FL T/S, if you ask those people have experience with them and other similar product from "other"competitors, I think everyone will tell you there is really nothing can come even close to them.
