hello everyone this is my 1st attempt with my d90 and flashgun i would appreciate if i could get some tips and hints for making my photos better cc please

What don't you like about it. Photography can really be boiled down to:

1- what am I taking a picture of
2- how do I want it to look

Then use your knowledge to set about making it happen. So without knowing what you don't like about the image, we can give any advice on how to change it.

the photo as such i like iam a beginner i was just wandering if the lighting was ok or is to strong just wanted to know that and if someone could give some tips e.g wre to set the flash etc or any techniques

Hi, For that type of image, I think you have made a good start. I assume you were going for the hard shadow extreme left - I think it works for the image. Also, balance with the sky seems good to me.

I find the relative highlight to the right on the flat roof distracting - the wall is OK IMO. I would have tried to zoom your flash-head to throw the light more tightly on your model. And I would have experimented with feathering the beam across very slightly in front of your model. (Google 'feathering light')

But testing these things out is half the fun & digital makes it so much easier. Cheers

By the way, do make sure you avoid double-posting in different forums.

The lighting is alright, but there are two distracting elements to be aware of.

His head is even with the top of the wall, looks odd. And the sky has birds (or dirt) which take away from the negative space component.

thanks for sharing

Nice 1st attempt. Were you going for a dramatic effect?

Are those birds in the sky or sensor dust in the upper right corner of the image?

Thanks for sharing.
