With everyone drooling over the latest and greatest I thought I'd post a picture from my old trusty 350D. Still does pretty good in my opinion. This was taken a couple months ago with a 17-85 IS lens.

There's nothing wrong with the camera and you have a pretty good lens.

I have a 350 as well but last spring I decided to upgrade for various reasons:

1) The excellent performance at ISO3200 and even 6400. I shoot in dim light without a flash.
2) The much larger and clearer viewing screen.
3) The larger number of pixels for cropping.

I took both cameras on a recent trip to Yellowstone. The intention was to use a 55-250 on the 350.

By the end of the trip I was switching both lenses on the 550.

But, the 350 is still a good camera. However, it may be time to start developing an upgrade strategy.

I bought a broken 350D for about 50€ and repaired it myself. Actually, two pins were broken inside the CF compartment.

Now I use it as a backup for my 450D. It's still a very nice cam, it wipes the floor with any modern compact camera regarding image quality and it cost me less than the cheapest Canon compact cam, so no regret :D

Today's cameras can take color photos. :)

I tried all last winter to kill my employer's old XT to force them to upgrade. That thing just wouldn't die. I even buried it in a small avalanche got it soaking wet numerous times and used it in -40 degree weather. Darn thing just kept on clicking. And it took some pretty nice photos too.

No doubt the newer cameras have better high ISO performance. Probably my number one reason for upgrading. I would like more focus points too. The time is soon!

I've still got the 350d as well...I'd like to eventually upgrade but I have a hard time justifying a $1000 expense to get a 60d or even more for a FF. I would like to get a sensor that has more MP, better ISO performance, and better dynamic range...until then I will continue to enjoy the trusty 350D!

Very nice picture. It just shows the equipment is one part of what is needed the photographer ability also is needed.

I took a course in art last winter. I learnt the difference between a fine oil painting, and a mechanical thing, like a photograph. The photograph shows only the reality. The painting shows not only the reality, but the dream behind it.

great photo! very happy to see a post about the old cameras, I was going to do the same. only this year was I forced to upgrade when I wrecked it, but I definitely built the start of my career with it. only 5 or 6 photos on my site were shot not on the XT.
