I was teaching my wife the basics of exposure and then was going to teach her how to use the meter through the viewfinder. She has perfect eye sight but for some reason she cannot see the meter, etc. through the viewfinder. She says that she sees it initially but then it all becomes blurry very fast to the point where she can't distinguish anything. If I set the lens oof and then tell her to lock focus onto something she says she can see the meter for 1 or 2 seconds then it becomes all blurry again.

She says she sees the image in focus but not the numbers which is weird since they're both supposed to be on the same plane of focus, right? Adjusting the diopter doesn't help.

Has anyone heard of something like this before? We're starting to get worried.

--She needs a visit to an eye doctor. I can see nembers with my bad eye that has cataract so it must be her.

That's what we're probably going to do. Since the only problem regarding her eyesight has been this one, we're going to have to take the DSLR with us. It's going to look funny though taking a huge DSLR to the doctor's office and telling him "take this camera and look through the viewfinder. You see that yellow numbers on the bottom of the screen? I can't see them". :|

Cause this may cause the eyes to adapt more than it is capable of (she said she sees it ily for a short while?).

If not, you might actually try to find out if the dioptre may eliminate the lack of short sight.

As Lock mentioned above, there's a diopter adjustment knob near the viewfinder. It has a + and - symbol. Have her adjust it until she sees the contents of the viewfinder clearly.

Her eyesight may be different than yours hence the diopter setting for you may not be ok for her.

I'm color blind, I see them yellow :(

FWIW, she already tried adjusting the diopter...

Assuming that her eyesight is not the problem, I would check 'auto meter off delay'.
Try 30 seconds. Custom Setting menu c2 on a D300.

Right. I forgot about this, but I just assume she would have half pressed the release, in which case it is turned on even if she would have had it set to two seconds.
