I am trying to view avi movies that I captured on the G2. They view fine in the camera but once transfered to my system, the sound only comes through. The video is static.

When using ZoomBrowser, I can view the thumbnail of the video but as soon as I double click, I get an error message.

Anyone else have this problem? Any fixes.

By the way, I update to firmware ver 1.1 but I can't exactly remember if it actually worked before the firmware upgrade.

Wow, I've had mine since February and have taken thousands of pictures with it but never used the movie mode?

I am not an expert on this, but I do know that not all players can play .avi files. Realone and Windows media player I believe cannot. Quicktime I believe can, but the movies are sometimes sketchy, ie start and stop. Others may be able to tell you of a player that is flawless with .avi files. I just know that the Windows Media Player gave me the same sypmtoms you are stating and Quicktime does not. And a small version of it is free if you go to their website.

You put a "?" mark on the end of your post. I am unsure if you are serious about not using movie mode.

I have a video camera with a firewire connection, it's fast and better so I hardly ever need the movie mode on the G2. I've simply done without it. Actually, the only reason that I am looking into it is because it bothers me that it doesn't work and I also have some time here to waste.

I actually got it to work on my computer here at work; it just doesn't work at home. This, for me, is good becasue I now know that its my home system and a windows issue that I can deal with better. I probably just need to reinstall something...windows/realplayer...

I think I'll look into that issue about the quicktime vs realplayer thing.

ACD See 5.0 plays the movies just fine...

Hi Lee,

You probably need to download and install a CODEC to view the video. Here's a URL for reference:

http://www.jmcgowan.com/avicodecs.html

You can download most of them here:

More here:

Microsoft.com also has a whole suite of CODECs which may be downloaded.

hth,

Pedro (who just registered trying to decide on a new 4 megapixel digital camera- see below)

p.s. it is between the Coolpix 4500 & the G2. Which should I pick? thanks.

Thanks everyone, it was an avi/real player thing. I changed the default player to quicktime and it worked fine.

I'll check out those codecs ...thanks.
