I'm finding the default settings are noise/smear central at ISO 3200/6400 unless Intelligent Resolution and Exposure are whacked up. Again, it's crude testing, so I could be doing things wrong, but they are 'very' different cameras.
I've just compared OOC from both GH1 and GH2, jpegs, ISO 3200, all default settings, with standard film. The difference is vast, with the GH1 looking very detailed and fine....apart from quite obvious banding. The GH2 standard OOC is noised and smeared very badly. The difference is so huge, it's making me think that the GH1 was doing IR, but you didn't have the choice to turn it off.
100% crops
GH1 14mm ISO 3200 1/10 f4.0
GH2 14mm ISO 3200 1/10 f4.0
GH2 14mm ISO 3200 1/10 f4.0 + Intelligent Resolution/Exposure (I'm not convinced my hand holding at 1/10 is making this look a touch softer btw)
GH2 14mm ISO 6400 1/20 f4.0
GH2 14mm ISO 6400 1/20 f4.0 + Intelligent Resolution/Exposure
So, I'm not entirely sure of what to make of it all, but I'm pleased with the high ISO images with IR applied, but if it wasn't for the banding, I'd be very pleased with the GH1 shots too.
More testing required.
