***Canon Image Challenge 29 - Home Based Still Life***

I always understood a home as "the home" ... and an hotel room was always just a "stay", but as a non-native English speaker I am definitely not in position to run linguistic discussions.

Basically since I escaped from my home-country I became "homeless", after 13 years in Germany I moved to Singapore and who knows what will be the next "station".

Trav, we started in Chiang Mai- to see Loy Krathong festival - and then moved (rented car) to Chiang Rai to discover Golden Triangle.

Now we are in Sukhothai and day after tomorrow we will continue to Ayutthaya. Then back to office :-( and "photo-less life".

I really love Thailand - a beautiful country. It's our fifth and definitely not the last visit here.

Some very "fresh" shots from Sukhothai: http://www.pbase.com/kyagudin/sukhothai

...and for me that's work; a known failing of mine that some people commented on this weekend. But more in the context that I lack the courage to leave either my work or my physical home here in the US.

It is a legitimate criticism.

One which you could not be subject to.

But....driving across Northern Thailand....! That must be wonderful....of the Buddhist images in your Pbase gallery, the fourth, the hand and the placed lotus (?) seem ideal as a still life for this Challenge.

But I enjoyed them all, of course.

And thank you for this challenge theme.

It's cold, snowy, and windy here now, so shooting things inside the home or office is just perfect. Plus, you know I tend to enjoy still life themes anyhow!

My trusty PC, which had served me well for ten years of constant use finally bit the dust a while back. I finally got a new machine assembled and set up, so this challenge will be a great excuse to make sure that the photo-related software works.

For the past few challenges I've added a challenge for myself, to post only shots in exhibition that I haven't posted before at CIC/CTF/CSLR. Since I shot more Still Life (conceptual, macro or just anything) than any other type of genre I finally found something to post. So if anyone remembers the pics I posted from any past challenges, let me know ;) With the exception of the 3rd shot, as I felt I didn't post it in its best light before.

Thanks!

hey! most anything goes here--if you've posted something we've seen before, no problem! i'm sure we all enjoy seeing techo's work no matter when you took the images. i'm looking forward to your "eligible" contribution! Thanks for stopping in!

I have six folders on my computer that cover the eligible and exhibition galleries for the CTF, CSLR & CIC. Almost every entry I've ever made is in those folders. I occasionally forget to copy an entry into these folders. It's pretty easy for me to see if I've entered something in the past.

Now, I'm less stringent about re-entering something from CTF or CSLR than I am about entering something I've previously submitted to CIC.

I had planned to make it to the Sinai and climb Mt. Sinai, (Sin {ai}....ahem) and hopefully down to the Red Sea...but now maybe not so much!

Here's a nice BBC Vid on Shark Attacks at Sharm el-Sheikh, (but the water looks nice...lol)

I can't embed because it is current news.

And snow in Europe, London and Paris, would be scenic for me, but this is ridiculous!

Best Wishes, Traveller (packing & off to buy more thermals)

They are my light system of choice when I'm doing a home based still life. One is red, one is black and one is blue. The blue one is my favorite. I like the color temperature of the light and the results I get with it. The three pictures I have in exhibition were all shot with a Mini Maglite.

Why is it that when I want one of those flash lights I can never find any of them? Oh, my house is full of inexpensive LED flashlights but their quality of light is terrible. I can't use them for photography. I can put my hands on at least ten in ten minutes but that's not what I need.

I'm on a hunting expedition.

Back to page one and the top of the heap.

i just ordered a flashlight that has many colors from qvc -- do you think any flashlight w multiple colors will be ok? i looked up the ones you mentioned and they are quite costly, so i found this and sent for it. it had 5*'s on qvc!

My experience is that the color temperature of the LED is critical.

I've got a dozen small LED flashlights. Recently Home Depot was selling 10 flashlights for $10 and I bought a pack. Not a single one is usable for photography. The color temperature is all wrong.

That's why I use the Mini Maglite.

I have a few LED flashlights myself that I will slip in on some shots. I also carry one in my tool pouch that I use on the job. It's very, very bright. 140 lumen's bright!

I need to buy a new one for work, this one is wearing out.

...boots and socks.

I bought a a couple of sets of super thick insulated socks today for my trip starting Wednesday....within two hours I had a huge blister on the large toe on my left foot...I can't put on shoes or anything at the moment.

Well, I'd say suck it up....I am a suck it up kind of guy, but this is an oddly intense pain. You've got to be able to walk, everywhere, 15 hours a day...in the wind and snows of Europe or the sands of the Sinai.

Well, this reminded me to pack my first aide kit.
