Dear koka,

Your entry ... has been disqualified from the challenge called Deserted City Streets-No vehicles or living creatures present-color only for the following reason:

I'm sorry, it seems that if a car was on this path it would have a problem with the stairs. The series title is Automobile Infrastructure. Cheers

What? Series??? I do not care about the ^^^^ing series. Nowhere in the rules it says that the streets must be suitable for cars.

Although... How about that:

"Challenge host is free to disqualify anything, but will always provide an explanation."

I am fed up with the hosts. Where do they find them.

Take care

It does say that an automobile must be able to navigate the street.

Without seeing your photo, it's hard to either agree or disagree with why you have been disqualified ;-)

There are two challenges, one of which is now into the voting phase. The latest one is limited to US streets only, and it mentions that a vehicle must be able to navigate the street; the other one didn't mention it.

I do not think it requires the cars to be able to navigate.
What defines the difference between a path, alley, and a "city street" ?

Is your shot "a paved city street" when you chose to show the part of it with stairs ? If the road suddenly has stairs across it's length it is IMHO ceased to be a street as I interpret street.

I think maybe you shot your street from the wrong angle and included the wrong elements.

Bart, you seem to want to go into semantics. We could ask e.g. dict.org and see that the primary meaning of street is "a thoroughfare"; but the problem is not that.

I could tolerate a modest incompetence, but not incompetence that is just too eager to show who is the boss. I feel little motivation to participate in this anymore.

The problem is more than semantics and dictionary reference, it's one of perception. It's the hosts challenge to host and disqualify those images which he feels do not fit the theme and the spirit of the challenge. Hosts makes a judgment call on every image, you presented an image that he made a judgment call on. IMO that is not "a thoroughfare".......not to automobiles at least.

You really think hosts are on a power trip when they disqualify images ?

It's time consuming and annoying to keep getting and acting on complaints from other entrants about their opinions on what fits the theme or not, check every little detail of the image entered otherwise you just get more complaints.

If you are that de-motivated by one DQ.........what can I say.

Maybe it's a language issue . . . where I come from people walk on the street and cars go on the road . . . it seems Wiki agrees . . .

" . . . but city residents and urban planners draw a crucial modern distinction: a road's main function is transportation, while streets facilitate public interaction"

i think in this case Street means a place where cars go . . .
