Fuji X100 just started looking even better

Is fuji well known for it's sensors, glass, processing? I'm new to Fuji so that's why I ask.
Hsitorically, you could almost say there are 2 Fuji camera companies. The company that produces mass market, middle of the pack cameras, and the company that produces very good professional grade cameras.

The mass market cameras aren't bad for that type of camera, some are pretty good, but the high end cameras are for the most part very good. The X100 seems to be a camera that falls in between those two extremes. Kind of rare for Fuji.

Part of the fun of waiting for this camera to appear is trying to figure out which Fuji is going to produce it!

BTW, I hope there are NO 'creative' modes. I hate 'em! Hate 'em! Hate 'em! Hate 'em!

Don't feel too vindicated if I happen to agree with you today. Chances are we will disagree tomorrow. . .

Now that you've judged the quality of my typing, take a look at my photos. . .

Does anyone know what kind of shutter the x100 will have? I hope they not only go with throwback styling but also with a "retro" 1970's compact fixed lens rangefinder leaf shutter. Or at least something as quiet. Reastically if its pocketable (and I'm in my 20's so I have big pockets) and quiet I will have no problem dishing out $1000 for it

Hi Albino,

I think it will be purely cosmetic at the outsight and purely electronic at the inside..the shutter I mean :-)

Here an example how it sounds...(at around 3:55 min.) beep...and no shutter mechanism sound, might be they make an artificial shutter mechanism sound as an option... ;-)

I have not seen or used this camera but somehow I have become completely enslaved to it, even as a rumor. Strangers from miles away show up at my front door and announce that they are X100 and want me to paint their house. I'm on my ninth house and there's no end in sight.

Lets hope so...what the hell about that 'beep' sound...as long as you can put it off. There is no mentionnig what so ever in X100 information that the Fuji will have a mechanical shutter mechanism, probable a good idea too. also at Photokina it wasn't mentioned by any of Fuji..

Um, I don't think they even fired the shutter in that video. Sounded more like a half press with focus confirmation beep to me.

If it keeps up with expectations I might finally decide to sell the 4/3 Panasonic L1 with its wonderful combo lens PanaLeica 14-50f2.8 as to get this mighty little jewel, I just hope it can compare to the bigger brother I already own and love, the S5.

Let's see what it happens, it is due to be on sale in March, right?
