I have an S602 Zoom. I just shot a short 640x320 movie, and tried to play it in MS Media Player V7.01. However, I only got audio, no video. The video is OK, though, in QuickTime.

I also just tried to burn the movie file to VCD using WinOnCD 3.8, but again this was unsuccessful. When I tried to preview the movie in WinOnCD, I got the message "Cannot find vids:mjpg decompressor". Again, I just heard the audeo, with no video. Needless to say, the resulting VCD would not show any video in my DVD player.

Can someone let me know where I can get the necessary codec to process the .avi files from the S602? Or is there something else that I need?

You can view them on the FinePix Viewer. Sometimes takes a second pass while the computer prepares a temporary file and then it's OK., (I have an HP laptop P3 with 512 ram/1.013GH speed/30G hardrive).

I haven't tried to load them anywhere, but clearly, a codec is needed to use them on other programs.

You can use the supplied software VideoImpression (in the FinePix CD) to save your avi file into other formats, maybe you will find it useful by then.

I am using Media Player 9 and it works fine.

Make sure that the setting in the option player tab, (at least on my version) Download Codecs Automatically is ticked. Maybe, you can also dowload some different codecs from the internet like the Nimo Codec Pack:

Hmm, I have now tried this. I saved teh .AVI as an MPEG, and was then able to successfully burn this as a VCD. However, the quality was pretty poor. I don't know if this is down to the quality of VideoImpression or my CD bruning software (WinOnCD). Opinions?

Don't forget you can also use the camera's video out to record movies straight to video tape--can be a good solution if you don't have a P4 class pc. Realize that you need a lot of horse power or your pc will play the movie choppier than is really possible. Compare to the camera's video output if you have any doubts as to the playback speed.

This is a step in the right direction. I downloaded the evaluation Morgan M-JPEG codec, and I now can see the movie when I burn a VCD, and play it back in my DVD player or on my PC. However, the audio has a constant loud buzz (more like a constant stream of loud clicks, actually) which was not apparent in the raw AVI file played in Quicktime.

Does anyone know what might be causing this problem? Is there a specific setting in the codec that I need to adjust?

Thanks in advance.

Steve
This is where you will find the necessary codec:
http://www.morgan-multimedia.com/

On my computer it works perfectly well - however, I use Nero for
burning my svcds. The quality is great.

Good luck! :-)

Hi Fishy,

I can play mine through media player but have the media player version 9 which is available from microsoft for download. Just do a search on it and it will take you to the download page. If I remember its about 9mbs in size.

This problem is quite new to me, but I had several others. I found solutions to all of them at http://www.vcdhelp.com/ Perhaps you could try it as well.

Yes, I've had a trawl through their site but not found the answer to this specific problem. I've posted a similar query on their forum as well, so hopefully someone, somewhere will be able to help!

In case anyone is interested, I found a workable solution for being able to view S602 movies on my DVD player as follows:

I've installed the evaluation version of the Morgan Multimedia MJPEG codec, and used TMPGenc to convert the .avi file to a VCD format .mpg. I've then used WinOnCD to to burn the .mpg as a VCD. This works a treat!

The only thing I'm still contemplating is whether there are any MJPEG codecs out there that will do a good job that are cheaper than the Morgan one...

Thanks for all your help.
