Yesterday I went to the westcoast of Denmark with a bunch of Nikon -shooters , to experiment with the technique known as "painting with light".

We chose to paint this old lighthouse which has not been active for many years due to the heavy build-up of sand-dunes in this area.
Its was VERY cold !!.. minus 5-6 degrees celsius and 14-16 m/s wind.

All pictures taken with Sigma DP-2s on tripod . ISO 50 and shutterspeed 15 seconds.
We used two powerfull torchlights to light up the tower

I prefer the balance of artificial/natural light in the first one, a magnificent painting!

I agree with Johan, the first shot is a great light painting. Thanks for sharing.
Cheers,

Ps. In another life, I did interior room shots using light painting techniques to good advantage.

If you can see the light, you can photograph it

Many years ago Frits a pal and his son painted their house at night with a couple of ordinary handheld torches (powerful ones were not common in those days, back when the Arc was being built). The house was called "The White House" but was in Budleigh Salterton, Devon UK, not the USA one). It took them about 2 hours but the end result was excellent.

Did you consider holding one of the powerful torches and running round and round the top? That way, the lighthouse keeper could have had a night off and saved on his electricity bill! :-P

Well done anyway - worthwhile project I feel, despite being invaded by Nikonites.

The photograph isolates and perpetuates a moment of time: an important and revealing moment, or an unimportant and meaningless one, depending upon the photographer's understanding of his subject and mastery of his process. -Edward Weston

... and it seems DP-2s did very good job with long exposures.

Yes .. the weaker your lights are .. the longer it will take :)

No .. I did not consider that :)

Its allright :) The Nikonites brought the lights .. so maybe it was their group that was invaded by a single Sigmaite :)
