I am trying to decide between a Canon s45 and a G3. I travel alot on business and am concerned about size of G2. I would love some input from G2 owners. Thanks. Tom.

The G2 is a somewhat bulky camera, particularly if you keep a lens protector/adapter on it. If size is any issue, I would buy the S45.

I just got my S45 and is very impressed by its usability. Before deciding on one, I am undecided as to the S230 or S45 as I travel a lot. I realized that I do not want to miss good quality shots whenever possible. S45 comes at a bigger size than S230 but with much better quality. To think of anything bigger like the G3 would be an overkill. Furthermore, G3 would attract curious onlookers when you want to take casual shots, while S45 would be more discrete. This is my fourth digitical camera, and you should put 70% on size and 30% on quality when used for travelling.

Good luck

Spot on, especially when the quality difference between S series and G series is not that noticeable.

I'm in total agreement on this. However, it all depends on the person as well. I see some folks still walking around with their their old giant camcorders and SLRs when I can't stand lugging a 707 (the largest digicam I've owned). Between the s110 (smallest digicam I've owned) to the 707 or Pro90 is the balance of weight/size versus quality/zoom. The G1/2/3 is too big for most pockets and almost necessitate a shoulder or neck strap. I hope my incoming s45 serves the best compromise.

This would be a more difficult choice if I had to choose between the S45 and the G3. But since the S45 is not currently offered in the USA, the choice is between the S40 and the G3 ir you're looking to buy now.

Another consideration you should think about is what type of
pictures you intend to take.

I had the S40 for less than 6 months, but I take a lot of low
light (no-flash) photos, and the S40's lens was just too slow
for my needs.

If size is your main concern, then yes, the S40/45 is more
useful. However, how many people actually carry around the
S40 in their pant/shirt pocket? I find that most people end up
carrying it in some sort of bag/camera case. Again, it'll depend
on your needs.

Have you really ordered the s45? If so, I'm looking forward to your hands-on experience since you've already test driven almost every compact (w/manual features) out there.

I carry my S40 in a case that's hooked to my belt. Very portable. Take a look at my S40 cases comparison pics:

G3, although definitely larger than S40, is possible to carry on the belt. I am doing it now. It all depends on your priorities. I already had a small Sony so going to the S40 would have simply given me added Mp and manual controls. G3 gives me more expansion possibilities. I would not have wanted to go any bigger though.

I am waiting for the G3 because I need the external flash. I have a Sony 707 and there external flash but I perfer the Canon EOS flashes and the Elan flashes fit the G3.
