If you mean you try to empty the battery as quickly as possible I'd just disable power saving, and leave the camera in playback mode with maximum LCD backllight...
After 3 years of using the same battery in my a700, it works just as well as it did when I first had it. No discharging required.

I agree with that - I have never had to discharge batteries in the A900 & battery performance is still good , in fact with a previous camera I had problems when 3rd party batteries did fully discharge in-camera & they then failed to re-charge !

Battery comes from manufacturer partially charged, not discharged.
I'm sure it is done for reason.
Can you explaing why you need to discharge the battery?
