For reach! Turns my 800 into 1200mm, so I can get these little beauties :-)

Due to low light these were shot at ISO's of around 900, I used noiseware to remove the noise carefully removing the noise reduction from the bird and reed.

Woah, Superb !! :))

Beautifull bird and shoot :)

what "800"" ??

I don't have an 800mm lens but the D300s is an excellent choice and you obviously understand how to use it with the 800mm lens. Great shots - now I am waiting to see what you do with in flight shots.

Yep it's my 6 year old sigma, brought in the days photography when gear was "cheap".
I have done flight photography with it, even hand held.

Magical appearances these birds. Very nice captures.. with all those creamy pastel colors.

When little boy I brought nest of Penduline Tit home (if only ;-)) home once, similarly noble little creatures which live close to these.
Excelent Q at iso900.

Thanks for posting,

Best,

Hynek

How nice to capture those colorful puff balls. Indeed, the D300 and the D300s have been wonderful DX cameras ...... That's why I was an early adopter.

I'd love to see if the D7000 will match that ... for birds at rest if not for birds in flight...... when in the hands of skilled shooters like yourself.

Gorgeous work. Yes, if you shoot wildlife you want to stick with DX for sure.

I've been on Dpreview since June 2006. Unfortunately, some posting history has been lost along the way...

The AF module in the D7000 is not equal to the D300s. Obviously BIF and fast moving subjects can be done with any DSLR. I've gotten great hummer shots with a D80, but the tracking, contrast detection with more cross sensors etc with the D300(s) is superior to the D7000 no question.
