Nikon Coolpix 995, 4500 have no hot shoe. So, it is very expensive to buy Nikon TTL Shoe and TTL Cord and Bracket.

I put earphone stereo cord inside the Vivitar 736, to output 3 lines(trigger, ground, TTL).

I output earphone female from the flash, so I can use TTL through the earphone cord. They are consist of 3 part.

1. Vivitar with TTL output with earphone cord(stereo which has 3 line)
2. NikonTTL Cord (half of SC-18)
3. Adaptor Cord to maximize the flash's output to get my own exposure

TTL mode : Just simply connet. That's it.
TTL working like a magic. Just press shutter, period!!

Through connect Adaptor Cord, the flash maximizes its output.
I use this Adaptor Cord, whenever I do not satisfy with TTL's exposure.

Nothing Connected

TTL Cord Connected

Adaptor Cord Connected to use manual exposure

I disassemble flash, then solder 3 lines(Trigger, Ground, TTL)

TTL Cord : 3 lines(Trigger, Ground, TTL)

Adaptor Cord : 2 lines(Only Trigger and Ground, cut off TTL line)

Hey chung, Where did you get that 55-70 adapter from?

Actually, the adaptor is 50-72mm.

The adaptor company(Korea), they don't sell abroad,
so you cannot buy it.

I just posted it just to show No-Vignetting Adaptor.

Thank you.
Hey chung, Where did you get that 55-70 adapter from?

Ciao Chung,

thank you very much :) great idea!

But I have a small question: Where did you find out the configuration of the cables (which position has which function - I hope you understand my terrible english). Can you explain this please.
Thanks :-)

Kind Regards from Germany
André

If you peel out the Nikon Cord, there is 3 lines.

White, Red, Gold

White is Trigger line which is connected with the tip of stereo jack
Red is TTL line which is connected with the middle of stereo jack
Gold is Ground line which is connected with the body of stereo jack
(Ground line is easy to find because Nikon Cord and Stereo Cord look same
"Gold Nake Line")

I hope better one coming from Germany!

Good luck!

Not a better one, only a other one :)

I want to use different flashes so I will built a adapter for a "standard-flashlight"

I will post my experiences when I´ve got the ordered standard-plugs and the SC-18.

A very clever idea and solution, as the author.

The only thing missing to be truly not Nikon dependant is to invent a plug like the one of SC-18! ( Well, to make a plug...)
I fully trust on you, Chung. Go ahead!
Best regards,
César

Ciao Chung,

it works :) THANK YOU :)

I use also a headphone stereo jack at the half of the SC-18.

But I don´t want to mount the cable directly to the flash because I want to connect to a standard non-ttl flash and to studio-flashes.

so I bought a standard-flash-extension-cable, cut it in the middle and mount a headphone jack on each side.

so I can connect to a studio-flash and to this adapter:

(this picture is not correct, it shows a adapter who don´t work!)

Kind Regards
André

Andre, you need just this cord, right?

For Sunpak G4500, Metz45CL and Studio Flashes

For Nikon SB-xx Flashes (PC Synchro)

For Normal phone-hole type Flashes

4 Nikon TTL Flashes that I made

This is a great idea. Thanks for sharing. Maybe I missed something, but how do you determine the trigger, TTL and ground lines inside the flash unit?

If you see my pic, there are 3 colors of line in SC-18.

Red is a TTL line
White is a Trigger line
Nude(Gold) is a Ground line

Now you can make something which is better than mine, RIGHT?

Thanks for your reply. I'm not sure if I can get this right so I'll never make something better. I still have the question of where to solder the three wires inside the flash unit. How do you determine which is TTL connection, ground and trigger when you open the flash unit? I understand the SC-18 cable lines but not what is inside the flash unit.

ge0rge! Thank you for asking.

Here's the answer. I love someone who is interesting about my stuff.
============================================================

B(middle of foot) is a Trigger line.
C is a TTL line.
E is a Ground line.
============================================================
We don't use "A" and "D" because "Nikon TTL line(SC-18)" has
only 3 lines(Trigger, TTL and Ground).

******************************************************************
Trigger=White line, TTL=Red line, Ground=Naked line
Please check the color of each line.

I will stay at your disposal for any further information you may require regarding this issue.

followed your conversation and learned a lot on what I always wanted to know. Thanks a lot for the valuable information!

Maybe one more question:

I have the impression that my Coolpix 995 does not really switch off the SB24 I have attached to it , so, I doubt that the pseudo-TTL sensor (however to name it) works correctly. Any experience observation available from your side on that issue?

I'm an electronics hobbyist and love a challenge but isn't this a lot of work to save $30.00 which I think is the price of a coolpix shoe and cord. Am I missing something.
