Well I am not sure if it's been posted or mentioned.. I know many ppl love the smaller cards etc and this is not a debate about which are better etc.

But today I went to costco and I asked the floor manager when he's expecting to recieve more Cf cards..
I wanted some 8g cards for the wedding work.
He said..."oh boy...I don't think were getting any more.."

Little did I know that the Canon Ti1 or whatever models, have moved to the smaller cards..I just never looked at those models.. So I point to the Canon Dslr display..and I said..well don't those take CF cards...?

he said "nope"..

I said sure they do.. SO I go check the card door and I see the small little slot

I have been so consumed with the 1D bodies or 5MKII upgrade.. I never looked at the newer base model slrs..
Can't believe the CF card is being fazed out so quickly..
anyhow another adjustment I guess..

Canon 5D

Interesting. I bought one at Costco not too long ago, maybe a month? I'll have to check next time I go. Well, they will be available on the internet for quite a bit longer.

They no longer carry cf cards at the stores. On-line orders only. I just checked on-line a few days ago and they have Sandisk 8gb ultra.

Ya he did tell me that they might be on line..

I too bought a few this summer.. I knew I shoudl grabbed a bunch when they were on special..I had a feeling.

I knew they had on line..but aren't the on line cards the Transcend brand or something..I don't know how good those are..

I know Amazon .com carries some still..
and maybe the Costco in the US has them..
I know the Costco.CA didnt have any Sandisk 8G. last time I checked.

I just find them much easier to use and manipulate than the tiny flimsy ones.. especially on the fly during weddings..
These smaller ones are just too small..
oh well..what can you do..

A quick check at Newegg shows tons of CF cards, even Sandisk 32GB. Costco sells consumer grade cameras, so no use carrying anything those cameras don't support. As for Transcend, I've been using them for years. I got the first with my 30D and have used them through my 1D3 and now with my 1D4. After roughly 100,000 frames and 5 camera bodies I've never had an issue. Don't hesitate to buy Transcend, they work great and their prices are hard to beat.

I went to a Costco in Michigan a couple of weeks ago and they too told me that they no longer carry CF cards. The store clerk checked several other stores in SE Michigan and could not find any in stock. I had to purchase mine at Office Depot.

See link below...Sandisk 8gb Ultra ($35). Btw, I just received the Lexar 16GB Platinum 200X ($46USD) from Buydig.com today. Same write speed as Sandisk Ultra (30mb/sec), I think. I never had Lexar in the past. Some forum posters here said that it's a good brand.

Correction about write speed: 9mb/sec instead of 30mb/sec. Sorry.

Our local Costco has not had them for several months, or maybe longer. They just don't sell. Trying to find them locally is difficult. Best Buy has 1 or two to select from, and Walmart has one. We do have a local camera store, Huppins (www.onecall.com) that has a good selection, but I usually order them online.

I like CF, in spite of its poor electrical connector that bends pins, but SD has pretty well taken over 99 percent of the sales, and CF is relagated to the few people with high end equipment.

I suppose I should stock up, since it will be even harder to get it as time goes by.
