I just received my new EagleEye 5x zoom and an extend a view thingy.

Does anybody have any good tips for focusing ? Has anybody had any luck with auto focus? I am using it on a c3000.

I'm considering purchasing one of these. Can I gather from this message that your're having problems with the focus? I also have a c3000z

You really have to hand focus it. It does not zoom throug all the distances but only works with the camera zoom at 3X and then is about 5X that or 15 X. THe focus is manula and very little range. The extend a view is really needed for most shots since you are usually using it in full daylight.

Here is my experience. Most teleconverters are fixed focus. The Eagle Eye design is rather unique in that it functions more like a telescope, thus is suitable for use with a wider variety of digicam's. If you focus your Eagle Eye off camera (like a telescope or monocular), you should not have to touch it again (use focus ring) in autofocus mode IMO. I have a C2000Z, that reportedly does not have as good an autofocus as the C2020/C3030, yet my autofocus works fine...thank you! I do not use Extend-a-view thingies! If I can do it with my C2000, it should be a piece of cake with a C3000; especially with that LCD magnifier view that I will love when I get my C3030 this week.

One point is the C3000/3030 vignettes mildly more than the C2000's due to the larger angle of view of the zoom range. Another point to ponder is the Eagle eye is not light; as it weighs a much as the whole camera! Hope this sheds some light.

P.S. I use the PNF 202 accessory tube (41> 37mm tube sold by bugeyedigital.com). I highly recommend use of this tube with the Eagle Eye, rather than the CLA-1. It is a stronger tube, thicker wall, and a perfect match for the Eagle IMO.

K.S.,

The best way I have found to focus is to first determine whether or not the subject is within the range considered by your camera to be infinity. If the answer is yes, set the camera on infinity and focus using the OpticZoom's focus ring (turn the barrel). If the object is closer than could be considered infinity, set the camera accordingly and focus using the OpticZoom ring before depressing the shutter release. Once you have it looking as close as possible with the OpticZoom, depress shutter release half way and let the autofocus do its thing.

You will find the Xtend-a-View very helpful to get the best and sharpest focus. In strong sunlight I can't see the LCD well enough on my C2000Z to focus the OpticZoom without it. The rule of thumb is to always focus the OpticZoom before the camera for sharpest focus.

Hmmm, I was under the impression that you would put the camera in macro mode. Coarse focus with the lens and macro mode should bring it the rest of the way when you half press the shutter. Anyone try this?

I am currently using an adapter that I Purchased with the camera it is a 41 to 41 sleeve with a 37mm step dowm ring and it seems to be working very well

I posted the original message to find out how other people are usig this lens. The information that I received from this site has been a great help! I don't know if there can ever be enough input on subjects such as this. I have taken a few pictures with this setup and so far the results have been very promising
